Historic milestone for Mandangad, native village of BR Ambedkar: Inauguration of Taluka Court building by CJI on Oct 12

A momentous chapter is being unfolded in the judicial history of Ratnagiri district with the inauguration of the new Mandangad Taluka Court building — located in the same taluka that is home to “Ambadve,” the native village of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The event is going to take place today on October 12, 2025

For nearly seven decades after Bharat’s Independence, Mandangad remained without a court facility. This long-pending aspiration of the local populace took shape due to the persistent efforts and vision of the then President and current Bar Council member, Milind Patil, who first presented the proposal for establishing a court in Mandangad.

Acting upon this proposal, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took decisive steps to make it a reality. Under his dynamic leadership, the court was formally sanctioned, suitable land was allocated, and construction commenced swiftly. Within a record span of just two years, the new court complex — equipped with all modern amenities — has been completed.

The inauguration ceremony of this newly constructed court building will be graced by the Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, marking a proud moment for the people of Mandangad and the wider Ratnagiri region.
Adding to the significance of the occasion is the installation of a full-sized statue of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar within the court premises. This tribute stands as a reminder of the profound legacy of Dr Ambedkar, whose ancestral roots lie in this very region.

Through this initiative, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has paid a heartfelt homage to the architect of the Indian Constitution. The event stands as a symbol of justice reaching every corner of the state and a fitting recognition of Mandangad’s place in the nation’s democratic and constitutional journey.

The ceremony will witness the participation of dignitaries, officials, and citizens who gathered to celebrate what many described as a truly historic and proud moment for the people of Mandangad. The guests include Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India; Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra; Chief Justice Chandreshwar, High Court of Bombay; Eknath Shinde, Minister of Housing of Maharashtra; Uday Ravindra Samant, Minister for Industries and Marathi Language and Guardian Minister of Ratnagiri District; Justice Makarand Subhash Karnik and Justice Madhav Gajniraj Jagamdar, Judges, Bombay High Court; and Yogesh Ramdas Kadam, Minister for Home (Urban), Revenue, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Disaster Management, and Food and Drug Administration, Government of Maharashtra.
