New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on September 15 hailed the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action [CoBRA] of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand police for achieving a significant success against Maoists in Hazaribagh.

In a post on X, Union Home Minister Shah said “the CoBRA Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand police have achieved a huge success in an anti-Naxal operation in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand today.

In this operation, notorious Naxal commander with ₹1 crore bounty, CCM Sahdev Soren alias Parvesh has been neutralized. Two other bounty Naxals Raghunath Hembram alias Chanchal and Birsen Ganjhu alias Ramkhelawan have also been eliminated by the security forces.”

Shah noted that “following this anti-Naxal operation, Naxalism has been completely eradicated from the Bokaro region of northern Jharkhand. ”

He emphasised that “soon, the entire country will be free from the menace of Naxalism.”

A joint team of CoBRA and police on September 15 neutralized three hardcore Maoists including Central Committee Member [CCM] of outlawed CPI [Maoist] Sahdeo Soren alias Pravesh and Raghunath Hembram who was a member of the Special Area Committee. Those killed in action were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 1.35 crore on their head.

The operation was launched in the forest area under the jurisdiction of Gorhar police station limits of Hazaribagh. The joint team following the operation recovered three bodies along three AK-47 rifles. A large quantity of ammunition, Maoist literature and technical equipment were also recovered from the site of gun battle.

Lugu Pahad and Parasnath area free from armed Maoist-insurgency

The encounter marks another significant blow to the already weakened Maoist outfit in the state. According to officials, with the operation at Hazaribagh on Monday, all armed Naxals in Jhumra and Lugu Pahad area of Bokaro and Parasnath area of Giridih have been eliminated by security forces.

“With this, all naxals in Jhumra and Lugu Pahar areas of Bokaro & in Parasnath area of Giridih have been eliminated. As of today, there are no naxals in that region. We can call that region naxal-free…In Jharkhand, now just one Poliburo member and two CC members remain; they live in Saranda. Besides this, there are no senior formations anywhere in the state. This is a major achievement for Jharkhand,” said Jharkhand IG Operations Michaelraj S.

Only two districts of the state remained affected by red terror, as per a release by the Union Government. This include West Singhbhum, which is among the 6 most Maoist-affected districts in the country. 18 districts currently stand affected by armed Maoist-insurgency in Bharat which the Union Government aims to eradicate by March next year.
