A shocking revelation has emerged in the murder case of a minor student studying at a madrasa in Nayagarh district, Odisha. Investigations have confirmed that this was not an accident, but a deliberate act of murder. According to police, the deceased student had been subjected to ongoing sexual harassment by senior students. Five teenagers have been arrested in connection with this case.

The victim was a resident of Cuttack district and attended a madrasa in Neelapalli in Nayagarh district. The police launched an investigation following a complaint from his father. They determined that the student was killed in an abandoned bathroom on the madrasa premises, and his body was disposed of in an unused septic tank.

District police informed  that five senior students involved in the incident have been arrested and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), which directed their transfer to a child correction home in Angul. Family members have also been instructed to provide certificates for date of birth verification.

Investigations revealed that the deceased student had been enduring unnatural sexual harassment from the five senior students for an extended period. After he threatened to inform his father about the abuse, the accused killed him out of fear of being exposed.

Sources indicate that on August 30, two senior students attempted to drown him by pushing him into a toilet tank, but he managed to escape. However, the harassment persisted. On September 2, he was again sexually assaulted under threat. Subsequently, two other students also assaulted him and ultimately strangled him to death. They then disposed of the body in the toilet tank to destroy evidence.

Forensic teams collected samples from the crime scene, and eyewitness testimonies confirmed the involvement of the accused. All five teenagers, aged between 12 and 15 years, have been charged under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, 2012, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said they have confessed to the crime.

Following the incident, one of the accused attempted to divert suspicion by notifying the madrasa head about the victim’s disappearance. However, the truth emerged during the scientific investigation and questioning of classmates.

The revelation of this case has caused a sensation in the district, raising serious concerns regarding the security and surveillance in madrasas and hostels.
