Reports of training camps allegedly being conducted by the political arm of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), in Ramanathapuram district have surfaced, with the Hindu Munnani urging the Tamil Nadu Government, police and Central intelligence agencies to investigate the matter. The organisation has also raised questions over claims that such training was conducted at the Ramanathapuram Armed Police grounds, a sensitive coastal region.
Hindu Munnani has lodged a complaint seeking the attention of the police and Central intelligence agencies over the reported ongoing training camps of the banned PFI’s political SDPI throughout Ramanathapuram. The district is a highly sensitive and porous coastal region.
It quoted the information given by Mohammed Raisudeen of Ramanathapuram.

Netizen Saravanaprasad Balasubramanian, in a post on X quoting Raisudeen, said that functionaries and cadres who were with the banned PFI and SDPI are conducting religious-based training camps in various parts of Ramanathapuram, which he described as religiously sensitive and conflict-vulnerable. In some parts, Muslims are dominant in numbers. The training is allegedly being imparted through the “Democratic Squad”. They have reportedly held a training camp at the Ramanathapuram Armed Police grounds.

Hindu Munnani has urged the Tamil Nadu Police and Central intelligence agencies to act on the serious issue before it goes out of hand.
The petition quoted YouTuber Savukku Shankar, who spoke about these issues on his channel and mentioned the names of some officials. Raisudeen has promised to make public the information that Savukku Shankar did not touch, saying he would come out with information on the banned terror outfits with concrete evidence. It would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for action.
Mohamed Raisudeen, in his social media post, alleged that PFI cadres are seen with district collectors and police officials. He also shared a video alleging that PFI cadres, under the pretext of playing cricket, have access to the ground and conduct drills at 4 AM at the Reserved Police ground. He appealed to the State Intelligence and Central Intelligence agencies to investigate the matter and ascertain further details.
The allegations have surfaced against the backdrop of growing security concerns around Ramanathapuram and its adjoining coastal belt.
In March 2024, the NIA arrested Abdul Salim in Andhra Pradesh in connection with the Bengaluru Rameshwaram Café blast investigation and conducted searches in Chennai and Ramanathapuram. Salim was identified as a suspected key member of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), and the NIA probe examined his alleged links with unlawful and terror-related activities.
In August 2026, Ramanathapuram Police busted an alleged methamphetamine manufacturing and distribution network operating from Ilayangudi in neighbouring Sivaganga district. The investigation found links extending to Kerala and Sri Lanka, while police traced the movement of methamphetamine towards Rameswaram, Thoothukudi and Nagapattinam before it was allegedly smuggled to Sri Lanka.
Ramanathapuram had also figured prominently in a PFI training case in November 2020, when Tamil Nadu Police busted a clandestine training camp at Periyapattinam. A Special Branch team found a group undergoing training at a tent, and those present told the police that the PFI was conducting the five-day camp and that it was the 32nd batch.
