A controversy has broken out at Jaipur’s Maharani College following the discovery of three shrines within the campus, leading to allegations of an attempt to encroach on college land.
Bharat Sharma, head of the Dharohar Bachao Sanrakshan Samiti, alleged that the shrines were built as part of a “conspiracy” to illegally claim the college property under the guise of the Waqf Act.
In a video recorded from within the campus, Bharat Sharma is seen urging the college administration to promptly remove the shrines. He also warned that if no action is taken, a protest will be launched.
Sources reveal that the shrines are located near the pump house and water tank within the college premises, which is enclosed by high boundary walls. However, it remains unclear who built the structures or when they were erected.
College Principal Payal Lodha stated that the authorities have taken note of the matter, but no decision has been made regarding the shrines so far. “I took charge as Principal only last December. From what I understand, these shrines have been here for a few years. This is an educational institution, and the focus should remain on academics,” Lodha said. She declined to comment on claims that the shrines were part of an attempt to encroach on college land.
