NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) chief spokesperson Saurav Das and national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka were detained by Delhi Police on October 13 while attempting to reach Jantar Mantar for an unauthorised protest, according to sources.
The detention raises questions over the duo’s compliance with a reported one-year peace bond, with allegations that the demonstration breached its conditions. Any violation, however, would need to be established by authorities based on the bond’s terms and the circumstances of the incident.
Despite the police action, Das struck a defiant note on social media, claiming CJP members had entered Jantar Mantar before being detained. Party founder Abhijeet Dipke also accused the government of restricting dissent, turning the incident into a political confrontation.
