UDAIPUR: Public outrage was reported in the Surajpole Police Station area of Udaipur, Rajasthan, on September 19, following an incident of vandalism at a local Hindu mandir. Angry residents observed a market shutdown and demanded stringent action against those responsible. Police detained a man identified as Feroz alias Bhuriya in connection with the incident.

The incident took place on the night of September 17 in the Indra Nagar Beeda area. A video showing the vandalised mandir circulated widely on social media, with broken murtis, including a Shivling, visible inside the premises.

After being informed by local residents, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Officers conducted a preliminary investigation and examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Based on the footage, police identified the suspect and detained him for questioning.

Angry locals staged a protest over the mandir vandalism and demanded stringent action against the accused. Local traders and shopkeepers kept their establishments closed at Dehligate intersection in Udaipur, pressing the administration to address their demands.

After protesting for several hours, a delegation of locals met District Collector Gaurav Agrawal and submitted their demands. They sought the strictest punishment for the accused and demanded bulldozer action against his alleged illegal properties. The protesters later called off the agitation following an appeal from the local administration and assurances of appropriate action in the case.

Local BJP leader Sunny Pokharna condemned the incident and raised concerns over the security of Hindu mandirs. He called for the installation of CCTV cameras on temple premises to prevent similar incidents in the future. Pokharna also backed the locals’ demand for restoration of the mandir and action against the alleged illegal properties of the accused.
