GOTAN (NAGAUR): “Human life should not remain confined to the pursuit of individual achievements, but should contribute to the well-being of the entire society and creation,” said RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat, who attended the 37th annual prize distribution ceremony ‘Swaraj’ at L.K. Singhania Education Centre (LKSEC), Gotan. He was the chief guest at the event.
Explaining the difference between formal and informal education, Dr Bhagwat said that along with school education, the values received from family, surroundings and society form the foundation of a student’s conduct.
He said the real purpose of education is not merely to earn a livelihood or fill one’s stomach, but to make a person noble, capable and sensitive.
He said tendencies such as food, sleep, fear and reproduction are also found among animals, but nature has given only human beings the power of discretion and thought. Through this power of thought, a person can transform from ‘Nara to Narayana’.
If actions are inspired by noble thoughts, a person attains divinity; otherwise, he moves towards decline, he said. Therefore, the journey of human life should progress from humanity to superhumanity and from superhumanity towards divinity.
Highlighting the relationship between truth and strength, Dr Bhagwat said that truth becomes powerless without strength. From an individual to a nation, strength of the body, mind, intellect and knowledge is essential.
He said Bharat’s economic and strategic strength has become stronger on the global stage. As a result, the world today listens to and accepts India’s thoughts and knowledge with greater seriousness.
Speaking about the real purpose of life, Dr Bhagwat said merely becoming successful is not enough; making one’s life ‘meaningful’ is far more important.
He said success and failure depend not only on one’s efforts but also on destiny. However, work performed with a spirit of Paramartha makes a person immortal.
History remembers those who devoted everything for society, he said, citing the examples of Bhamashah, Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram, Swami Vivekananda and the immortal who sacrificed their lives smilingly for the freedom of the country.
Dr Bhagwat said education should not remain restricted to intellectual or scientific subjects. Art, music, sports and yoga are equally important components of education.
He said games such as kabaddi provide a subtle lesson in never accepting defeat and rising again after falling. Similarly, orchestral music and other forms of music create collective consciousness through the remarkable coordination of the mind, intellect and body.
Calling upon educational institutions to go beyond merely awarding degrees, Dr Bhagwat said they should become pilgrimages of human development, where students develop self-confidence, character and the values of patriotism.
He said everyone lives for themselves, but the life of a person who lives for society and the nation becomes truly meaningful.
He emphasised that the ultimate objective of education should therefore be to create individuals who are not only successful in their personal lives but also contribute meaningfully to society, the nation and the larger creation.
