Guwahati: Congress sells its tickets for Assam bypoll as high as Rupees 2 crores. Assam senior minister Pijush Hazarika made this huge allegation during an election campaign in Behali for the by-election to be held on 23rd November. Senior BJP minister Pijush Hazarika during a campaign rally in Behali constituency alleged that the Congress candidate contesting from the constituency has paid approximately Rs 2 crores to the top leaders of Congress party for his candidature from the grand old party. Minister Hazarika said,“ half of the money went to a senior leader in Jorhat in Assam and half of the money went to a senior leader in Alwar in Rajasthan.”
It should be mentioned that Minister Hazarika indirectly alleged that half of the two crores paid by the Congress candidate went to Jorhat Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi and half of the amount went to Congress general secretary and state in-charge from Rajasthan Jitendra Singh. The congress candidate from Behali constituency Jayanta Bora got the candidature in the final movement after he left the ruling BJP and before joining the Congress party. The united 16 parties opposition alliance was broken in Assam after Congress party declared its candidature from the constituency. The opposition parties in Assam also decided to back the CPI ML candidate after Congress refused to leave the constituency for the united opposition which was decided as their election strategy.
Minister Hazarika said that if the allegation of ticket being sold to a candidate even before joining the party, it is a mere tragedy for the party workers as they are betrayed by their own leaders. Political analysts says that Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi was adamant to give ticket to Jayanta Bora even before he joined the party. The opposition unity was scattered in Assam as Congress refused to give a single constituency to the opposition parties.
