Indian Student Chirag Antil found dead in Vancouver, Canada

A 24-year-old student from Haryana was shot dead by unknown miscreants inside an Audi car in Canada’s Vancouver, police said. The incident took place on April 12, 2024.

In a statement, “Officers were called to East 55th Avenue and Main Street around 11PM on April 12, 2024 after residents heard gunshots, Chirag Antil was found dead inside a vehicle in the area No arrests have been made and the investigations are ongoing, the report quoted the Vancouver Police.

The incident occurred late on April 12, 2024 night in the city of Vancouver in British Columbia, where the deceased lived and worked. No arrest has been made yet in this matter. In a post on social media platform X, the Congress students wing, National Student Union of India (NSUI) chief Varun Choudhary requested the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for assistance to the student’s family.

“Urgent attention regarding the murder of Chirag Antil an Indian student in Vancouver, Canada. We urge the Ministry of External Affairs to closely monitor the progress of the investigation and ensure that justice is swiftly served,” Choudhary said. “Additionally, we request the ministry to extend all the support and assistance to the family of the deceased during this difficult time,” he added.

“Chirag Antil, an international student from Haryana, India, who arrived in Vancouver in 2022 for his studies, tragically lost his life due to a recent murder in the city. We urgently need assistance to raise funds for sending his body back to India,” read a Go Fund Me page started by his brother.

“If you are in Vancouver, and able to offer any support or help, please reach out to us. Your help in this matter would be deeply appreciated by Chirag’s family and friends as we work together bringing closure and peace during this heartbreaking time. Thank you for any help you can provide,” the fundraiser said.

Chirag Antil, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana came to Vancouver in September 2022. He had just completed his MBA (Master of Business Administration) and at University Canada West in Vancouver a recently got his work permit. According to local media reports, Chirag Antil’s family is raising money through a crowd funding platform Go-Fund-Me to repatriate his body to India.

Romit Antil, Chirag’s brother has told a news agency that he was a very kind hearted person. “My brother and I had a great relationship We used to talk every day and every night. I spoke to him last before the accident happened. He was kind of happy, he never had issues of fights with anyone ever, he was an extremely polite person, Romit told the news agency.
