In a resounding endorsement of India’s traditional agricultural practices, Dr Mohan Bhagwat, the Sarsanghchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), extolled the virtues of Indian organic farming as a beacon for the world. His remarks came during the conclusion of an All India Rural Development seminar held at Shri Kshetra Sarla Bet, where he underscored the significance of India’s agrarian heritage in addressing global agricultural challenges.

The seminar, which convened 350 participants from across 45 Indian States, served as a platform to deliberate on various facets of rural development. Dr Mohan Bhagwat, a prominent figure in India’s socio-political landscape, seized the opportunity to shed light on the distinctive attributes of Indian agriculture. He emphasised that Indian farmers, driven by a commitment to sustenance rather than purely commercial gains, epitomise a cultural ethos deeply ingrained in the fabric of the nation.

Central to Dr Mohan Bhagwat’s advocacy was the assertion that India’s time-honoured organic farming methods, refined over centuries, present a compelling and sustainable alternative for global agriculture. By prioritising the imperative of feeding the world over profit maximisation, Indian farmers, according to him, embody a spirit of altruism and stewardship towards the planet.

The discourse also delved into the extensive rural development initiatives spearheaded by the Sangh over the past 15 years. Programs such as Gram Vikas, Prabhat Gram, and Akshay Krishi Parivar have been instrumental in galvanising grassroots efforts aimed at bolstering village economies and fostering sustainable livelihoods. Dattatraya Hosbale and Suresh Joshi, among other dignitaries, graced the event, underscoring the collective commitment towards rural upliftment.

Dr Mohan Bhagwat’s passionate advocacy for Indian organic farming resonates against the backdrop of burgeoning global concerns surrounding food security, environmental sustainability, and climate change. As nations grapple with the imperatives of a rapidly evolving agricultural landscape, his articulation of India’s agrarian heritage as a potential panacea offers a compelling narrative for reimagining global food systems.

The seminar not only served as a forum for dialogue but also catalysed a renewed sense of purpose and urgency towards realising the transformative potential of traditional wisdom in modern agricultural paradigms. Dr Mohan Bhagwat’s vision for a world nourished by the ethos of Indian organic farming encapsulates a broader narrative of resilience, harmony, and stewardship, resonating far beyond the confines of national borders.

As the discourse on global agriculture continues to evolve, Dr Mohan Bhagwat’s advocacy signals a clarion call for embracing indigenous knowledge and sustainable practices as cornerstones of a more equitable and resilient future.
