The elections, held on October 15, marked the return of student union polls to Odisha’s higher education institutions after an eight-year gap, reviving a key platform for student representation and democratic participation on campuses.

ABVP’s Historic Victory in Odisha Student  Union Elections Reflects Students’ Faith: Virendra Singh Solanki
ABVP National General Secretary Dr Virendra Singh Solanki said the organisation’s historic victory in the Odisha Students Union elections reflects students’ unwavering faith and support for the Students’ Council.
Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Solanki described the electoral success as a testament to students’ confidence in ABVP and its commitment to student welfare and leadership. He extended his best wishes to the victorious candidates and workers for their achievement.

Year-Round Engagement Credited for Success

ABVP Odisha East State Secretary Deeptimayee Pratihari attributed the organisation’s performance to the hard work of its workers, sustained campus activities and regular interaction with students throughout the year.

She said ABVP workers had consistently raised student-related concerns and worked to safeguard students’ rights, adding that the confidence placed in the organisation by students remained its greatest strength.

Pratihari also said several unopposed victories reflected the trust ABVP had built among students. She expressed confidence that the newly elected representatives would raise issues concerning student welfare and work towards resolving problems faced by students.

Congratulating the newly elected ABVP candidates as well as representatives of other organisations, she described the elections as an expression of students’ democratic rights.

She added that ABVP would work to fulfil the commitments made by its candidates during the ‘Why I Stand’ campaign. The organisation, she said, would remain active on campuses throughout the year rather than limiting its activities to the election period.

Student Politics Revived After Eight-Year Gap

The return of student union elections has renewed attention to the role of campus politics in developing future leaders and strengthening democratic participation among young people. The polls have provided students with an opportunity to elect representatives to raise academic, administrative and campus-related concerns.

ABVP thanked the state government and Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj for facilitating the electoral process.

With the newly elected representatives preparing to assume their responsibilities, attention is expected to shift towards the fulfilment of campaign promises and the resolution of student grievances.

The organisation has said it will focus on student welfare, the protection of students’ rights and responsible leadership through sustained campus engagement. Its ability, along with that of other elected representatives, to address concerns over academic facilities and campus administration will be important in translating the election results into tangible outcomes for students.

Amit Shah Says Results Reflect Support for ‘Nation First’ Ideology

Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated ABVP workers on the organisation’s performance, linking its reported victories in Odisha with its electoral successes at Panjab University and Delhi University.

In a post on social media platform X, Shah said the results sent a clear message about the outlook of the country’s youth.

“First Panjab University, then Delhi University, and now this remarkable victory in 13 universities of Odisha clearly conveys that the country’s youth stand firmly with the ‘Nation First’ ideology, not with forces spreading falsehood, confusion and anarchy,” Shah said.

He further described ABVP’s victory as a strong response from young people to what he termed anti-national forces.

CM Majhi Links Performance to Gen Z’s Confidence in PM Modi

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also congratulated ABVP on its performance in the student union elections across Odisha’s colleges and universities.

In a social media post, Majhi said the results reflected Generation Z’s confidence and trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He expressed hope that the newly elected student representatives would uphold the values of knowledge, character and unity, respect the voices of all students and contribute to a healthy academic environment.
