On January 1, tragedy struck in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, as a 25-year-old man, identified as Shubham Valmiki, took his own life after allegedly facing relentless harassment from his wife, who demanded his conversion to Islam. The distressed victim had been falsely implicated in a rape case, and his refusal to embrace Islam reportedly led to his imprisonment.

Following his recent release from jail, the victim resorted to suicide by hanging. In a heartbreaking video recorded before his death, he laid blame on his wife for the dire circumstances. In the video, the man expressed, “You ruined my life. You just wanted me to convert my religion to Islam. I never asked you to become a Hindu. I accepted you the way you are. You even filed a fake rape case against me. Now I have left with no option but to end my life.”

The incident gained widespread attention after the video circulated on social media, prompting the police to take notice and launch an investigation into the case.

Shubham Valmiki, employed as a DJ operator, reportedly fell in love with a Muslim woman a few years ago, leading to their court marriage three years prior. However, tensions within the marriage arose, and the wife left due to her insistence on Shubham converting to Islam. According to Shubham’s father, the woman’s family demanded a substantial sum of money from him, which he refused to pay.

Amidst the strained relationship, the wife lodged a rape complaint against Shubham at Juhi police station, resulting in his arrest and subsequent imprisonment. These actions had a severe impact on Shubham’s mental well-being, leaving him deeply upset. On January 1, he tragically took his own life in a room on the first floor of his home by hanging himself with a dupatta. Shubham’s lifeless body was rushed to Hallett Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Prior to his untimely demise, Shubham Valmiki recorded two videos on his mobile device. In the first video, addressed to the woman, Shubham expressed his grievances, stating, “You did a very good job by ruining us. Your family members divorced us after taking a loan of 80 thousand rupees from us. Even in the name of ending the rape case, you took two and a half lakh rupees from us. If you don’t want to stay, then don’t stay, just return my money.”

In the second video, Shubham says, “I sacrificed my skills, job, and life’s earnings for your love. But you only used me. I completely ruined myself in your love. That’s why I am committing suicide. I am going.” In the video, he has blamed his wife and in-laws for his death.

As per DCP South Ravindra Kumar, the young man took his own life by hanging. Prior to his demise, he levied substantial accusations against his wife and in-laws. Additionally, he recorded a video before his death, which has gained widespread attention. An inquiry is underway to examine these claims, and a case report will be filed based on the complaint lodged by the family members.
