Mohammad Talha Mazhar, a student from Darul Uloom Deoband, was apprehended by Saharanpur police for issuing threats to carry out an attack reminiscent of the Pulwama incident. The Uttar Pradesh Police, along with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), promptly detained the student after he posted on his social media handle, “Insha Allah, there will be another Pulwama soon.”

Mazhar, a resident of Saraikela in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur, is enrolled at the Darul Uloom Madrasa in Deoband, Saharanpur district. His social media profile, now under scrutiny, reveals multiple reshares of videos featuring AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi and politicians from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, indicating a pattern of content alignment.

The post in question alluded to the Pulwama terror attack of February 14, 2019, where over 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives in an attack orchestrated by Jaish-E-Mohammad.

The Uttar Pradesh Police and ATS are currently interrogating Mazhar, probing not only his online statement but also exploring any potential connections to terrorist organisations. A legal case has been filed against the Darul Uloom Deoband student for making threatening remarks online.

In response to the situation, Dr. Vipin Tada, Saharanpur’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), stated, “Deoband police received information that a youth has made an objectionable tweet. Given the seriousness of the matter, Deoband Police has registered a case and is interrogating the youth. A joint team with ATS is formed to probe this case. Based on the information we get in the primary interrogation, we will take further action.”

This incident adds to recent controversies involving Darul Uloom Deoband, as the institution has been linked to multiple arrests related to terrorist modules, according to reports from the Uttar Pradesh Police ATS. The ongoing investigation aims to shed light on the potential connections and motivations behind Mazhar’s threatening online post.
