Indic Wisdom: Choosing Yog over Yoga

Humans become more open after initiation into yog. Sadly, many have misconstrued yog for yoga

How many times you have experienced such ‘moments’ in your life when though you are perfectly awake in your body, mind, self and soul yet you have no thoughts, your emotions are tranquil, there is no agitation in decision making and no resistance in accepting your own situation irrespective of the pleasant or unpleasant situations around? Such ‘moments’ are self-attested glimpses into supreme reality that we can exist without any sense of our existing.

Such ‘moments’ definitely verify that it is not necessary to experience existence as full of sorrow and, carry on with life somehow as if one were carrying the painful load of proverbial cross in one’s inner world of self-consciousness. Such ‘moments’ are testimony that the world can be experienced as full of bliss also and that too here. Life throws such ‘moments’ before all of us irrespective of all kinds of superficial man-made divisions or separations like paths, religions, cultures, genders, nations, races etc. But do we know that these moments are moments of our glimpsing or experiencing union or yog?

The path of yog enables us in our endeavour to erase all such ‘stops’ which prove as hurdles in experiencing eternal union

One may ask what are those ‘stops’ or hurdles which do stop us from seeing life as it really is always in union? The state of realisation which is so much popularised by the seers of Upanishadic period. One stop among those ‘stops’ is that of stopping ourselves to experiment with yog. Hardly few are open enough to accept spirituality as a field of exploration, discovery, invention and research. Initiation into yog makes it possible to become more open but some are not open for yog yet. And, many have misconstrue yog for yoga.

The path of yog enables us in our endeavour to erase all such ‘stops’ which prove as hurdles in experiencing this eternal union. Yog is either one’s union with someone so long as oneness has not dawned upon us or, it is someone’s union with the one so long as someone-ness hasn’t erased fully from oneself.

Yog emanates from the one that alone exists. None knows ‘that one’s real name. But almost all religions indicate ‘that one’ by various names and even namelessly also. But by dint of ‘that one’s being ‘all-pervasive, that one can be perceived by all or anyone within, by purifying one’s own reasoning. As they assert that all-pervading one alone can be ‘that one’, therefore, finding it within becomes the most obvious choice. That is yog.

Most of the things which most of the people follow across religions have nothing to do with spiritual elevation or liberation but these ‘things’ are found conducive for socio political cohesion therefore, interest groups handling power equations keep various dogmas afloat by glorifying them and amouflaging those as the things of religion. It is because of such cross connections that it is difficult to free people from religious dogma. And, before one’s becoming free from dogma, taste for liberation doesn’t evolve in one’s consciousness. And, without liberation there is no attraction in people’s heart for wisdom. And, without inclination towards wisdom in one’s heart there is no attraction for liberation. You may ask, why do I need liberation? Well then, you can also ask why I need wisdom? But, you may not. You need it because it is real nature of that supreme consciousness of which every human being is potentially supreme manifestation. It’s everyone’s innate nature to realise one’s full potential. Over the period of your journey across lives so many impressions have gathered around this real nature of supreme consciousness in you. And, your real nature which is the ‘complete spec’ or ‘blue print’ or spark of supreme consciousness got cocooned inside a bundle of false identities created by these impressions. Out of these many identities at one occasion you know yourself as this one and at another point of time you know yourself as that one. In reality you are none, who accommodates them all peacefully.

Initiation in yogic path under the discipline of an attained master opens the door within us, leading us to knowing and realising ‘that one’ who has camouflaged that self in our garb. Choosing yog has the potential to transform us into the chosen ones.
