A law and order situation arises in Motihari of East Champaran in Bihar after a few miscreants attacked a procession of lord Ganesha idol near Madhuban Chowk on Thursday, September 28.

According to the reports, a procession was being carried after Ganesh Puja that concluded on Thursday through Dwardevi Chowk of the city, and when it reached near Madhuban Chowk, a few miscreants threw acid on the people walking in the procession.

It’s been reported that as many as three people were then rushed to private hospital for treatment; however, the injured have so far not appeared before the police, according to a report of the Dainik Jagran.

Taking to X (Twitter), the Motihari police, in a video message, informed that “a Ganesh idol immersion procession was being carried out under the Town Thana limits when information of a few miscreants pouring acid like material on the procession was received. Upon receiving information a police team immediately took stock of the situation. The immersion procession has been completed, the situation is peaceful.”

It’s been learnt that the incident sparked an outrage among the locals who demanded arrest of the miscreants involved in the act and it was only after the police assured quick action the agitated crowd returned to normal. It’s been reported that the CCTV footage of the nearby locations are being examined to identify the miscreants.

Scuffle between two groups in Purnea

In another incident reported from Ichalo Panchayat under Dagaruwa police station limits of Purnea a scuffle erupted between two groups over installation of flags and playing music on DJ in a Idgah when a Kalash Yatra was being carried out from the region.

According to the police, villagers of the Basdaha village were taking out a Kalash Yatra towards Panar river when an altercation broke out between the two groups over playing music on DJ near Chhatgahi Idgah.

The Purnea police have seized the DJ and deployed personnel on the spot to prevent any untoward incident. ” There is no law and order situation. Police have been camping at the location and legal action is being taken against the miscreants, informed Purnea police in a series of tweets. It’s been learnt that a peace meeting between the two communities has also been organised by the police.

Recent scuffle

It is to be noted the state has witnessed a number of communal flare-ups in recent months leading to heavy deployment of troops in a number of cities such as Dabhanga, Sasaram and Bihar Sharif to maintain law and order. Earlier communal tension had gripped the town of Biharsharif and Sasaram over the Ram Navami procession leading to clashes and rioting between the Hindus and Muslim community.

Later on communal tension also gripped Darbhanga after two groups collided with each other over installation of a religious flag near a Durga temple premises in Bazar samiti Chowk leading to stone pelting between the groups on the next day. A similar incident was also reported from Bariaul village under Kamtaul police station after an altercation broke out between the two communities over the Muharram procession.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ruling coalition in the state has been on the target of opposition lately over deteriorating law and order situation in the state where the main opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has been alleging the grand coalition government for failing to control the surge in incidents of murder, loot, women safety and communal flare-ups.

Earlier the state unit of the saffron party while taking a dig at the Mahagathbandhan over law and order situation in Darbhanga had asked that ” Due to appeasement policy of the Mahagathbandhan government Darbhanga is burning, earlier Sasaram and Bihar Sharif were also burnt, how long will Bihar be burning ?
