NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has debunked a viral social media video in which an individual claims to have resigned from his post as a Sub-Inspector (SI) to support the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protest at Jantar Mantar. Clarifying that verification of official records revealed no Sub-Inspector matching the details claimed in the video, the police termed the claims “unverified and misleading” and warned of legal action against those responsible for creating or circulating misleading content.
In a post on X, Delhi Police urged the public to exercise caution while consuming and sharing information on social media, stressing the importance of relying on verified official sources rather than circulating unsubstantiated claims.
The police clarified that the video, which is being recirculated amid the ongoing CJP protest, had already been flagged as fake in July 2026. However, it is being circulated again during the latest protest by the Cockroach Janata Party. According to the authorities, the same video is now being circulated again with as malicious intent.

“A video is being recirculated on social media in which an individual falsely claims to be a Delhi Police Sub Inspector who recently resigned from service to join the ongoing protest. Verification of Delhi Police records has revealed no Sub Inspector matching the details claimed in the video. The claim is therefore unverified and misleading”, the Delhi Police said in its statement.
The police further warned that legal action would be initiated, in accordance with the law, against individuals found responsible for creating or circulating misleading content. “Delhi Police had already issued a clarification on this matter on 24 July 2026 and this time the same video is again being circulated with the malicious intent”, the statement added. The authorities also appealed to the public to refrain from sharing unverified information and to rely exclusively on authentic and official communications.
The clarification by the Delhi Police comes amidst protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party against the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The protest has drawn police scrutiny following attempts to stage demonstrations in the national capital, with Delhi Police registering more than 20 First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with various incidents linked to the protests.
According to the information provided by the police, the cases concern offences including taking the law into one’s own hands, obstructing official duties and assaulting police personnel. Against this backdrop, the resurfacing of the fake video claiming that a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector resigned to join the agitation, further fuels unrest and misleads public. However, the police have categorically stated that their records do not corroborate the individual’s claim.
Delhi Police has urged citizens to exercise responsibility while sharing information online, emphasising that claims circulating on social media should not be treated as established facts without verification. The authorities have maintained that the public should depend on official statements and verified information, related to the protests.
