BENGALURU: The Karnataka BJP has warned the Congress government of protests outside police stations and district Superintendent of Police offices if the registration of FIRs against its party workers for submitting Form-7 applications under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls continues. State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra said the party’s core committee had discussed several political and organisational issues, including SIR-related complaints, permanent resident certificates, by-elections, local body polls, sting operations and alleged Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment irregularities.
Briefing reporters after the core committee meeting at the BJP office in Malleshwaram, Vijayendra accused the state government of creating confusion over Form-7 applications and using the police to target BJP workers. He maintained that the applications had been submitted in accordance with Election Commission rules and alleged that the government was continuing to register cases against party members despite judicial criticism of its actions.

Vijayendra said the BJP would not remain a silent spectator if FIRs continued to be filed against its workers. The core committee had decided to consider staging protests outside the police stations concerned and the offices of district police chiefs if the alleged action against party workers persisted.
The BJP also raised objections to the state government’s decision to authorise Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) and municipal commissioners to issue permanent resident certificates. Vijayendra argued that the authority to issue such certificates should remain restricted to tahsildars and officials of higher rank.
He demanded that the government withdraw the order immediately. According to Vijayendra, the party plans to write to the state government seeking reconsideration of the decision and also bring the issue to the notice of the Election Commission. The core committee discussed the matter as part of its wider review of administrative decisions and their possible implications.
On the possibility of an Assembly by-election, Vijayendra said the BJP was preparing for an electoral contest that could be announced at any time. The meeting discussed the need to consult JD(S) leaders and maintain coordination with the alliance partner before deciding on a candidate. The party intends to take its allies into confidence while finalising its approach to the by-election.
The core committee also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections. Vijayendra expressed concern over the reservation lists announced by the state government, alleging that certain provisions appeared to favour the ruling Congress. He said the perceived inconsistencies had raised doubts about the transparency of the process.
Questioning the government’s commitment to holding local body elections, he urged it not to use procedural issues as an excuse to postpone the polls. He said the reservation-related confusion should be resolved promptly and the elections conducted fairly.
The BJP has decided to begin preparations without waiting for the formal election announcement. The party will appoint election in-charges for every district and establish election management committees to coordinate its campaign and organisational work. Vijayendra said these arrangements would help the party prepare systematically for the local body contests.
The meeting also discussed whether the existing BJP core committee should continue in its present form or be reconstituted following the appointment of new party in-charges. Vijayendra said members had exchanged views on the composition of the committee, but the final decision would be taken by the party’s national president. He added that the issue had already been brought to the national leadership’s attention and a decision would be made at an appropriate time.
Commenting on the controversy surrounding sting operations in Karnataka, Vijayendra said the BJP would wait for the facts to emerge before responding in detail. He referred to speculation that the developments could be connected to internal differences and disputes among ministers and legislators in the ruling party.
He said the identities of those behind the sting operations, their objectives and the authenticity of the allegations needed to be established. The BJP would respond after the facts became clear, he said. Vijayendra also referred to statements by MLA Ravi Ganiga and said the party was watching the developments closely. He suggested that further details could emerge in the coming days.
On alleged irregularities in KPSC recruitment, Vijayendra said the BJP’s position was clear: any wrongdoing must be investigated comprehensively and impartially, and those responsible must face strict legal action.
Responding to Congress leader Priyank Kharge’s questions about the BJP’s position, Vijayendra asked the government to explain the developments concerning the Special Investigation Team’s investigation and the related proceedings before the courts. He said the government should address questions about the probe rather than challenge the Opposition to respond.
“The truth must come out, and those responsible must be punished,” was the thrust of Vijayendra’s position on the recruitment issue. He reiterated that the BJP did not support shielding anyone found guilty of irregularities.
The core committee meeting focused on strengthening the party’s organisational machinery, preparing for upcoming elections and deciding how to respond to issues involving its workers. Vijayendra said that the BJP would continue to press the government for transparency in electoral procedures, fair local body elections and accountability in recruitment investigations.
