Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Jammu to attend the prestigious North Tech Symposium 2023, which is been organised by the Indian Army from September 11 to September 12, 2023. Besides the Defence Minister, the Union Minister of State and Technology and Space are scheduled to participate in the event.

The most unique feature of the event is that it will be held in a civil establishment for the first time since its inception fifteen years ago

Core Objective

One of the Symposium’s core objectives is to facilitate one-on-one structured interactions, fostering seamless engagement between industry representatives and academia. The event will also feature invigorating Technical Seminars, designed to ignite the spark of creativity and foster the exchange of novel ideas and concepts. To instil a profound sense of national pride, the Armed Forces will stage a spectacular Military Equipment Display, affording the general public, industry stakeholders, and academia an immersive and patriotic experience.

What is the North Tech Symposium?

The symposium is a joint initiative with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) and under the aegis of the Confederation of Indian Industries endeavours to bridge the gap between the needs of the Indian Army and the capabilities of academia and industry. SIDM, formalised in 2017, plays a pivotal role as an advocate, catalyst, and facilitator for the growth and capability building of India’s defence industry. Their active involvement in the North Tech Symposium 2023 promises to elevate the event’s impact and effectiveness.

The North Tech Symposium which began in 2005 is a platform and event which is expected to draw 250 Indian Companies and 50 Indian Startups who will showcase military equipment at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jagati Campus on the outskirts of the city of Jammu. It will commence on September 11, 2023, and will end after a period of two days, said Lt. General Anindya Sengupta said at the press conference.

“This year North Tech Symposium will be a bigger leap in reinforcing our endeavours to close the gaps towards desires,” he added. Continuing further he said that the symposium will aim to make significant strides in enhancing the military capabilities, with the theme centred on Synergy, Research, Development and innovation in the modernisation of the Military.”

Various weapons are said to be procured through this platform using special financial powers granted to the Indian Army Commander and other capital procurements projects with the current annual budget of approximately Rs 1000 crore, he added. He highlighted the dedication of the event to reigniting the spirit of innovation to meet immediate and future security requirements.
