A 65-year-old man has been admitted to the hospital after one Imrana attacked him in Rajasthan’s Jaipur for no genuine reason. The victim sustained severe head injuries. The family and the villagers said the people from the Mosque sent him, as after the attack the accused repeated, “Masjid ne bheja hai..sir kaat dunga..”

A First Information Report (number–140/2023) has been registered in the case at Kaladera police station of the Jaipur district on June 3. Following the complaint the accused was arrested by the police.

In his complaint letter, Motiram Sharma told the police that, on June 3 like every day he opened his tea shop in the Kaladera Mandi area. Around 7:30 am his father Ram Lal Sharma arrived at the shop and grabbed a cup of tea. All of a sudden Imran son of Rahat Hussain came out of the mosque carrying Halwai Palta (big spatula) with which he started attacking Ram Lal.

He targeted head and shoulders, with locals support Motiram managed to get rid of him, by then Ram Lal was severely injured and hence fell unconscious on the floor.

When the villagers held Imran he said, “Moti today, I will kill you and your whole family members”. When the villagers confronted him he said, “Masjid ne bheja hai..” (people from the Mosque sent me).

Motiram concluded the complaint by stating the attack was an attempt to showcase Islamic terrorism and hence strict action should be taken against the accused and everyone behind this conspiracy.

As per the FIR the accused has been booked under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder). The same day the accused was arrested on the spot.

Organiser called Motiram on June 8, while his father’s condition was still critical. He said he runs a tea stall at a shop provided by one of his relatives who too is a Bagda Brahmin.

On the fateful day, his water was having a cup of tea like every day when Imran came out of nowhere and started attacking him. By the time they could get rid of him, he had already done the damage. Motiram says, his father sustained as many as eight stitches on his head, four on his ears and four on his shoulders.

About the attack, he said, ‘Imran said, his mother sent him to kill all of us and to the villagers he told, people from the Mosque sent him to kill all of us’.

Motiram used to deliver tea at every shop in Kaladera before 2018 when he caught severe food poising and was admitted for months. After he recovered one of his relatives handed his small shop to him saying he can run a tea stall there. There is a Mosque in front of his shop, he has no enemies, in the Muslim community or any grudges with the Mosque authorities, he added.

They are still not able to justify the brutal attack on his father, he added.

About his family, he says, he has a paralysed sister, wife and children who solely depend on his shop for livelihood. After the attack, it is difficult for him to set up the shop again, as he fears the attackers. His father’s condition is deteriorating.

Govardhan said that they don’t know the accused and had no past enmity with him. Yet he was speaking over and over again and was obsessed about killing them. They suspected that some youths were also with him, but they did not come forward. He had brought the weapon to kill from the mosque.

After arresting the accused Imran, when the police started investigating the case, they found that the accused Imran is a mental patient. He is undergoing treatment from Dr Shiv Gautam in Jaipur. After the attack, his family members also reached the police station. He also showed the documents of treatment from the hospital.

He hails from Gujarat but had been living in Nangal in Dausa for a long time in search of work. From there he came to Kaladera in Jaipur. Used to work in the industrial area only. Accused Imran lives in Kaladera along with his mother and younger brother.

After the attack, a panchayat was held in Kaladera. People alleged that the police was protecting him by calling him mentally ill. People closed the entire market in protest. DSP Govindgarh, Balaram Chowdhary reached the spot to take the situation under control.

The police told the people that the accused had been arrested and sent to jail. Locals on the other hand demanded that a number of people are coming from other regions in the industrial area. Their verification should be done. Many people are living on rent. Govardhan raised questions on the police and said that if the accused is a mental patient then how is he working in the factory?
