Cow smugglers were trying to take away a calf from near the station square in the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. As soon as the locals caught them red-handed and began protesting they attacked them. The attackers were raising religious slogans, the situation was taken under control by the police with heavy force deployment.

Notably, when the local Hindu leaders reached the Damoh Kotwali to get a complaint registered against the attackers, a bunch of them followed and created a ruckus at the station. Citing the seriousness of the situation an extra police force was deployed in the city.

Notably, on the night of April 19, some of the miscreants were trying to take away a cow calf, from near the railway station square to somewhere. As soon as the locals spotted them, they raised suspicion and followed.
Turned out the abductors had ties with cow smugglers. When the Hindus started questioning them their gang showed up. As many as hundreds of Islamists assembled near the square.

Within no time they started raising religious slogans and the heated argument took shape of almost mob violence. However, the senior police officials barged in and listen to the arguments of both sides.

The leaders were then taken to the police station where Islamists tried creating a ruckus. The leaders on the Hindu side believed that Islamists were taking away the calf with them under their cattle smuggling project. They would have chopped it and sold it off if, the locals would not noticed.

The SDM and the Superintendent of Police assured that action will be taken against the perpetrators and anyone taking law in hand will get punished.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Shivkumar Singh, to handle the deteriorating situation, the police of Dehat police station including Kotwali police station have been deployed in the streets.

At the same time, SDM and Tehsildar also reached the spot. Due to the dispute, a situation of tension was created, with the use of mild force and understanding the situation was taken under control.

Hindu activists have made serious allegations against the police. They say that due to the connivance of the police, the work of cow slaughter is going on in the city. Butchers are doing hooliganism in the area.

Not only this, but the people of the Hindu organization have also warned the government and the administration that, if action is not taken against the butchers, the situation will worsen further.

Prahlad Singh Patel, the Union Minister of State for food processing industries and Jal Shakti, also a Member of Parliament from Damoh district wrote, “I urge all parties for peace and restraint in Damoh, as well as assure that strict action will be taken against the culprits who committed an unforgivable crime like cow slaughter. I have spoken to the Superintendent of Police of the district”
