Viswa Santhi Foundation, established by ace Indian film actor Mohanlal, has donated 1000 PPE kits and over 2000 N95 masks to healthcare workers in Tamil Nadu. The actor has also donated 1000 PPE kits for the health workers of Pune Municipal Corporation. The trust handed over the materials to the Arogya Raksha Seva Abhiyan jointly run by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Janakalyan Samiti and Pune Municipal Corporation.

ViswaSanthi Foundation director Dr Narayanan, representing the superstar and his trust, handed over these essential materials to Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani at a function held in Coimbatore on May 11. Tamil Nadu is one among the states worst affected by Covid-19 in India.

The trust also donated N95 masks to police officials who are at the forefront of the battle against COVID-19. Coimbatore West Zone IG Periyayya IPS received these masks from ViswaSanthi Foundation director Dr Narayanan and Anoop Antony.

Sunita Pendharkar, Manager of the Viswa Shanti Foundation, handed over the PPE kits to Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Mahanagar Karyavah Shri Mahesh Karpe, Janakalyan Samiti’s Pune Karyavah Ashwini Kumar Upadhye, Shri Shekhar Gaikwad, Shri Rubel Agarwal, Municipal Standing Committee Chairman Hemant Rasne were also present.

Under the Health Protection Service Campaign, health check-ups are being conducted in the red zone from April 25 to 20. So far, more than 53,000 citizens have been given health check-ups, out of which 885 have been recommended for further check-ups.

“PPE kits are needed for healthcare professionals who are leading from the front in the on-going fight against Coronavirus. Pune residents are grateful to Mohanlal for his social commitment and generosity to donate PPE kits to the needy,” said Mayor Mohol.

Extending help to Kerala’s battle against Covid-19, in April, the ViswaSanthi Foundation had donated an autonomous robot for the isolation ward at Ernakulam medical college at Kalamasserry in Kerala. KARMI-Bot, developed by ASIMOV robotics, a company working under maker village of Kerala Start-up Mission will work as a caregiver at the hospital. “As part of its daily duties, the robot will dispense food, medicine, collect the trash left away by patients, perform disinfection and enable video call between the doctors and patients. The project aims to limit the interaction between Covid patients and health workers as well as to address the shortage of PPE kits by minimising its use. Carrying a payload up to 25kgs, the robot is capable of achieving a maximum speed of 1m/sec. UV-based disinfection and targeted detergent spray are the additional capabilities of KARMI-Bot,” the New Indian Express reported.

Actor Mohanlal has contributed Rs 50 lakh to Kerala Chief Miniter’s Relief Fund to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic. Reportedly, Mohanlal was one of the first actors in the Malayalam industry to come forward and contribute an amount for coronavirus relief works. He was also a part of a Covid-19 awareness video, titled Family, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Rajinikanth, Diljit Dosanjh, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Chiranjeevi and Prosenjit Chatterjee.

ViswaSanthi Foundation was started with the objective of creating and delivering high impact and focussed programs to the underprivileged sections of the society in the areas of healthcare and education. According to its website, the organisation aims to touch the lives of at least 10 lakh people in less than a decade. The bulk of the work of the foundation is to enhance and amplify the various Government schemes for the underprivileged. This means that apart from working on the ground, we will connect with the Government authorities at the local, state and central level to ensure that they too can make a difference.

Dr Vasudevan, the Founder Head-Cancer Research Laboratory at Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum, is the Chairman of Board of Directors of Viswasanthi. Shri P E B Menon, the RSS Sanghchalak of Kerala, is the Managing Director of the foundation.
