In yet another incident of religious intolerance against religious minorities in Pakistan, a Hindu couple was forcibly converted to Islam at a local mosque in Sindh’s city of Nawabshah.
The incident came to light after the local media reported it on Friday. Imam of the local Masjid, Hamid Qadri, facilitated the conversion of the duo, while the leader of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat’s, a Muslim religious organisation in that represents the Barelvi movement, was also present, reported ANI.
The cases of forced conversion in Pakistan has been on the rise for the last few decades. Such incidents point finger at intensifying religious persecution in the Islamic country. According to US-based Sindhi Foundation, around 1,000 young Sindhi Hindu girls between the age of 12 and 28 are abducted, forcibly married and converted to Islam every year.
In Pakistan, discrimination against the religious and ethnic minorities has been manifested in various forms of targeted violence, mass murders, extrajudicial killings, abduction, rapes, forced conversion to Islam, etc.
With increasing persecution against the minorities, Pakistan has turned out to be a graveyard for Christians, Sikhs, Ahmadiyyas, Shias and other ethnic minorities like Pashtun and Baloch people.
