BJP state vice-president R. Sreelekha, IPS (Retd), BJP councillor of the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, said on October 11 in Thiruvananthapuram that she is an ardent Modi Bhakta and would continue in the BJP until her last breath. The former Director General of Police rejected rumours that she was resigning as a corporation councillor. Sreelekha opened up through her YouTube channel, “Sasneham Sreelekha”.
Sreelekha’s post explains the real facts behind the resignation controversy. She rejected the news that she was angry about not getting the chairpersonship of the National Commission for Women. She rejected that propaganda lock, stock and barrel. She did not intend to resign because of that.
The former senior IPS officer said that she had been suffering persecution since she joined the BJP. She has always believed in and followed Narendra Modi’s ideals and policies. She said that rumours regarding her entry into the Congress were utter nonsense.
The former DGP said that some media outlets had been spreading wrong news since she joined the BJP, despite her repeated statements that such reports were wrong. She believes in the BJP, which is an idealistic party that stands for the service of the country. It is a matter of pride to be a member of such a party.
Within two years of joining the party, she was made the state vice-president and a corporation councillor. She said that the party loves her. Party leaders visited her during her hospitalisation and consoled her.
Sreelekha added that she was undergoing heavy pressure in connection with her activities in the Corporation division she represents. She had to face attacks in WhatsApp groups whenever there was a delay in taking action. By that time, she had developed health issues, and doctors prescribed complete rest. That is why she submitted her resignation to the Mayor on September 30.
When the news of her resignation spread, both the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) celebrated it, stating that the BJP rule in Thiruvananthapuram was going to end.
Since BJP councillor R. Sugatan was arrested under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) and jailed, both the LDF and the UDF hoped that, under those circumstances, the BJP would lose its majority in the council. However, the High Court, on October 6, quashed the KAAPA order against R. Sugatan, and he was released the same day. Now, Sreelekha has made it clear that she would not resign. As a result, the dreams of the INDI Alliance have been shattered. Mayor Adv. V.V. Rajesh enjoys a comfortable majority in the council. The other day, V.V. Rajesh had stated that no force could topple his administration and that Thiruvananthapuram city would play an important role in the country’s forward march towards achieving the status of the most developed country by 2047.
In the city, people hate the LDF, thanks to its corrupt rule of 45 years. The Congress does not have a significant presence in the corporation area.
