Jaipur: The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has directed senior police and administrative officials to submit CCTV footage, police records and a detailed report on the assault of RSS district Pracharak Krishna Avtar at Naraina police station in Jaipur.

In an order issued on Tuesday, commission chairman Justice G R Moolchandani directed the Inspector General of Police, Jaipur range, the Superintendent of Police, Jaipur Rural, and the Jaipur District Magistrate to furnish the required records.

The commission sought CCTV footage from Naraina police station from 8 am on October 11 to 8 am on October 12. It also asked for a certified copy of the station’s general diary, the injured Pracharak’s medical records and details of any case or preventive action registered against him during the period.

Commission seeks senior-level investigation

The directions followed allegations that Krishna Avtar was beaten at the police station and subsequently referred to Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in serious condition.

The commission observed that allegations of assault on a person in police custody were serious. It said the suspension of the personnel concerned alone did not appear sufficient.

It stated that police personnel found responsible for unlawful conduct should face disciplinary and legal action. Depending on the investigation’s findings, those found guilty could also be dismissed from service.

The commission also directed the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the incident was investigated by an officer of Superintendent of Police rank. The officer has been asked to submit a written report along with his observations.

Rajasthan BJP President Madan Rathore says, “The manner in which they were mistreated was indicative of a heinous crime. It should be described as the height of cruelty. I cannot fathom how a police officer could display such bestial behaviour. I have heard the full account from them. The law will take its course. Impartial justice will be served, and the guilty will be punished. Treatment is underway, and the doctors are attending to the patient. They will provide whatever treatment is required. We pray to God for a speedy recovery and a return to good health so they can resume their mission…”

Police personnel suspended

According to police, the incident occurred late on Saturday night following an altercation between police personnel and two men associated with the RSS.

The two men were taken to Naraina police station, where they were allegedly assaulted. Following the incident, police personnel, including Station House Officer Umrao Gurjar, were suspended, and a case was registered against those accused of the assault.

Diya Kumari assures strict action

Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari visited SMS Hospital in Jaipur to enquire about the injured Pracharak’s condition.

Speaking to reporters, she said an impartial investigation was underway and that strict action would be taken against those found guilty.

“No one is above the law,” she said.

She also criticised the Congress for raising questions about the state’s law and order situation, saying the opposition should recall the situation during its own tenure.
