The strength of any national movement relies heavily on grassroots organization and the ability to mobilize domestic networks into global platforms. In the realm of international youth science administration, Indian representation at the executive level has historically been overshadowed, leaving crucial policy and funding decisions to Western counterparts. This operational gap was recently bridged when Anant Singh, a graduate of Rajdhani College, University of Delhi, was elected as the first Indian Vice President of the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS). Alongside this historic election, Anant successfully led the initiative to host the International Conference of Physics Students (ICPS) 2028 in Delhi, defeating competitive bids from European nations to bring the world’s largest physics student gathering to Indian soil for the first time.

Anant’s trajectory underscores the necessity of building sustainable infrastructure. During his undergraduate studies in Delhi, he recognized that individual academic excellence—while important—does not generate systemic influence. He focused his efforts on community organization by working relentlessly to establish the Indian Network of Physics Students (INPS), eventually serving as the national president. Under his leadership, the INPS scaled significantly, operating outreach programs and student-focused activities that reached over 5,000 students across the country over three years. He coordinated the execution of large-scale initiatives, serving as the Head Organizer for AESCAP 2025 and managing international grants to fund domestic scientific development. This grassroots mobilization created a functional national committee capable of interfacing with global bodies on equal footing.

His foundational academic experiences equipped him with the analytical tools required for global diplomacy. Despite the limitations of the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, Anant proactively secured an internship at Miranda House, working on statistical tools in cosmology. He subsequently secured the highly prestigious Caltech SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship) in 2023. Today, he is pursuing his M1 Paris Physics Masters at Université Paris Cité, for which he was awarded a very competitive SMARTS-UP Scholarship. Balancing rigorous astrophysical research with institutional leadership, he also served as Vice Chair of the Affiliated Commission 5 Council for the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), crafting essential programs for global youth.

The successful bid for ICPS 2028 represents the culmination of this systematic organizing. Competing against well-resourced committees from Italy and Spain, Anant leveraged the operational capacity of INPS to prove that India holds the logistical and academic infrastructure to host a summit of this magnitude. His election to the IAPS Vice Presidency is a testament to the power of structured youth leadership. By prioritizing national community-building over isolated personal success, Anant has initiated the groundwork to ensure that the next generation of Indian physics students will have direct access to global opportunities, proving that effective grassroots organization inevitably leads to global leadership.
