PATHANKOT: BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has alleged that his cavalcade was attacked on Friday while he was travelling to Pathankot to attend the launch of the party’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’.
According to Bittu’s office, his security team apprehended three individuals allegedly linked to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following the incident. Bittu further alleged that local MLA Sherry had sent the individuals to prevent him from participating in the BJP programme. These allegations have not been independently established.

Bittu said the incident raised serious concerns over the safety of political leaders and called on the Punjab Government to immediately investigate the matter. He also said that if anything happened to him, the Punjab Chief Minister and the Punjab Director General of Police would be responsible for his security.
“Such incidents are a grave threat to democracy and the safety of political leaders,” Bittu said, while demanding security for political workers and leaders across the state.

The incident came as the BJP launched its Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra from Pathankot. BJP national president Nitin Nabin was scheduled to flag off the first leg of the campaign from Ekta Sthal at Madhopur in Sujanpur.
The BJP has planned four yatras across Punjab, collectively covering around 4,000 kilometres and all 117 Assembly constituencies. The campaign is scheduled to culminate in Jalandhar on September 30, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to address a concluding rally.
The campaign is around the opposition to drug abuse in Punjab, while also raising issues concerning law and order and governance. The party has described the yatra as an effort to turn the fight against drugs into a mass public movement.
