New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin on September 9, announced a month-long nationwide ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in public life, portraying his political journey as a transformation from public service to what the party calls “service of the nation”.
The campaign will run from September 17 to October 17, commemorating the 25th anniversary of PM Modi assuming office as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001. Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Nabin said PM Modi’s 25-year journey represented a period in which the principles and goals he articulated at the beginning of his political career were translated into what he described as “concrete resolutions and actual achievements”.

“Over the past 25 years, he has steadfastly continued this journey of service, embracing the mantra of transitioning from public service to service of the nation,” Nabin said.
‘From despair and darkness’ to a global economic power
Launching the campaign narrative, Nabin sharply contrasted the economic and political situation before PM Modi became Prime Minister in 2014 with what he described as India’s transformation under his leadership. He said India had once been described as part of the “Fragile Five” economies and was facing what he termed “policy paralysis”, while today it had emerged as the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
“There was a time when the atmosphere was one of despair and darkness. Our economy was seen as part of the Fragile Five. But today, India stands out as the world’s fastest-growing economy,” Nabin said.
The BJP president also claimed that PM Modi’s leadership had significantly enhanced India’s standing on the global stage and shifted the mood among the country’s youth from despair to hope and optimism.
Pointing to India’s startup ecosystem, Nabin said the country had become the world’s third-largest startup nation, with young Indians increasingly emerging as job creators rather than merely job seekers.
Women, youth and border villages in BJP’s campaign narrative
Nabin highlighted several flagship initiatives of the Modi government while outlining the broader themes of the campaign.
On women-led development, he traced the government’s initiatives from Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao to the Lakhpati Didi programme and referred to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam as part of efforts to increase women’s participation in policymaking.
He also cited initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India, saying Indian youth were increasingly making their presence felt across different fields.
Another key theme was the transformation of India’s border villages. Nabin said villages located along the country’s borders were once described as the “last villages” but were now being projected as “first villages”, reflecting what he described as a change not only in infrastructure and development but also in public perception.
From Gujarat model to national development
Nabin also revisited PM Modi’s political journey in Gujarat, where he served as Chief Minister for nearly 13 years before becoming Prime Minister in 2014. He pointed to the Narmada project and the Vibrant Gujarat initiative as examples of the development model that, according to him, helped position Gujarat as a major engine of growth and investment.
“Gujarat’s growth became a development model that other states could aspire to emulate,” Nabin said. The BJP chief further claimed that the government’s development agenda had extended beyond economic and material progress to cultural and civilisational issues.
Referring to projects and developments associated with the Ram Mandir and Kashi Vishwanath, he said the Modi government had worked to preserve, restore and develop India’s cultural heritage.
Nabin also cited the government’s efforts against Naxalism as part of what he described as a broader transformation under PM Modi’s leadership.
Nationwide outreach from September 17
The BJP will launch the campaign on September 17, which the party observes as ‘Seva Diwas’ to mark PM Modi’s birthday. The opening programme, titled “Ashirbadar Banti” (Lamp of Blessings), will be held on the same day. A blood donation camp is also planned, while a nationwide cleanliness drive will be organised on October 2.
The campaign will include a range of public outreach and service-oriented activities, including special camps to connect eligible citizens with welfare schemes of the Centre and state governments. Programmes will also be organised at the grassroots level, including activities at Anganwadi centres.
The BJP plans to hold photo and digital exhibitions showcasing PM Modi’s 25-year political journey, covering his governance record, development initiatives and welfare programmes.
Seminars and intellectual forums focusing on good governance, development and Antyodaya, along with interactive programmes involving youth and other sections of society, are also planned.
1.25 lakh representatives to join Vande Mataram rendition
The campaign is expected to culminate on October 17 with a major mass programme involving around 1.25 lakh elected representatives, from the panchayat level to Parliament. The participants are expected to join in a rendition of all six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’, marking the conclusion of the month-long campaign.
BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde has been appointed National Convener of the campaign. A seven-member committee comprising a minister, an organisational general secretary and five senior leaders will be constituted in every state to coordinate the programmes.
For the BJP, the campaign is intended not merely as a commemoration of PM Modi’s political milestone but as an effort to take what it describes as his message of public service, governance and national dedication to people across the country.
Nabin described PM Modi’s journey from an ordinary party worker to the country’s ‘Pradhan Sevak’ as the outcome of vision, determination and sustained effort. “His journey began as an ordinary party worker, and today, he has advanced the nation’s progress as its ‘Pradhan Sevak’,” Nabin said.
