New Delhi: To bring the rich knowledge tradition, scientific perspective, and global potential of Ayurveda to the masses, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has launched a special digital dialogue series, ‘AyurVarta’, for the upcoming Ayurveda Day.
Through ‘AyurVarta’, meaningful conversations with leading experts will cover key aspects of Ayurveda, contemporary healthcare challenges, scientific research, education, clinical practice, and Ayurveda’s expanding global outreach.
First Episode Features Special Discussion on the Fixed Date of Ayurveda Day
The inaugural episode of ‘AyurVarta’ featured a special dialogue between Professor (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda, and Professor (Dr.) Mahesh Vyas, Dean, PhD, AIIA.
The central theme of the episode was: “Why is Ayurveda Day celebrated on September 23?”
The discussion explored the history of Ayurveda Day, its earlier observance on Dhanvantari Jayanti (Dhanteras), and the Government of India’s decision to designate a fixed date for the annual observance of Ayurveda Day.
Ayurveda Day was earlier observed on the occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti. Through a Gazette Notification issued in March 2025, the Government of India designated September 23 as the fixed date for observing Ayurveda Day. Accordingly, since 2025, Ayurveda Day has been observed every year on September 23.
Ayurveda’s Global Outreach Gaining Momentum Under the Leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi
On the occasion, Professor (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director, AIIA, said:
“Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continuous efforts are being made to establish Ayurveda not only as India’s ancient system of healthcare, but also as a significant knowledge and healthcare system with growing relevance in the global health landscape. This year, Ayurveda Day will be observed with great enthusiasm and on a wider scale not only across the country but also in several countries around the world. This growing global participation reflects Ayurveda’s increasing recognition and acceptance internationally. The designation of a fixed date for Ayurveda Day is an important step towards giving Ayurveda a stronger national and global identity and creating greater awareness about its holistic approach to health and well-being.”
He further stated that designating a fixed date for Ayurveda Day is an important step toward strengthening Ayurveda’s identity as a global system of health and wellness. Around the world, growing interest in holistic health, preventive healthcare, natural lifestyles, and well-being is creating new opportunities for Ayurveda internationally.
Prof. Prajapati said that ‘AyurVarta’ is a digital extension of this broader vision, aimed at bringing authentic Ayurvedic knowledge and expert perspectives to audiences across India and the world.

September 23: A New Identity for Ayurveda Day
Designating a fixed date for Ayurveda Day is expected to give the annual observance a more consistent, structured, and global identity.
During the ‘AyurVarta’ discussion, Professor (Dr.) Mahesh Vyas, Dean, PhD, AIIA, explained that September 23 falls around the Autumnal Equinox, a period when the duration of day and night is approximately equal. Balance and equilibrium are central to the Ayurvedic understanding of health and well-being. In this context, September 23 also carries an important conceptual association with Ayurveda’s emphasis on balance, harmony and equilibrium.
