Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Minister Konda Surekha
Hyderabad, September 3, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has decided to drop Minister Konda Surekha from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect, according to a government note issued on September 3.
A recommendation to this effect has already been sent to the Telangana Governor.
As per the govt press release, the Telangana Government has rescinded, with immediate effect, the appointment of Dr G Chinna Reddy as Vice-Chairman of the Telangana State Planning Board and appointed Gadwal Vijayalakshmi as the new Vice-Chairman.
The Chief Minister has further approved the appointment of Nerella Sharada as Chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Women, Hyderabad.
G Sudha Rani, former Rajya Sabha MP, has also been approved for appointment as Chairperson of the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA).
Konda Surekha is a senior Congress leader and Telangana minister, from the state Cabinet. The controversy began on August 19, 2026, when Konda Sushmita, daughter of Telangana Minister Konda Surekha, publicly attacked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at a gathering in Geesugonda, Warangal, held as part of her mother’s birthday celebrations. Sushmita challenged Revanth Reddy over his backing of Parkal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy, saying she would contest the Parkal seat in the next Assembly election. She also levelled allegations against Revanth Reddy and his brothers, including a claim involving Rs 200 crore in land.
Following the remarks, the TPCC Disciplinary Committee, headed by Mallu Ravi, sought an explanation from Konda Surekha, while AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan sought a report from TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud. Surekha maintained that her daughter’s remarks were her personal views and that she should not be held responsible.
The dispute subsequently widened within the Telangana Congress, with Surekha questioning the party’s handling of the issue and meeting AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi on September 2. The matter culminated in Chief Minister Revanth Reddy deciding on September 3 to drop Surekha from the Council of Ministers.
