Ardent Sangh Swayamsevak and active social worker Parakkal Mohammed (56), a native of Cheeral Asharippadi in Wayanad,  Keralam, passed away on July 12. People affectionately addressed him as ‘Mohamadikka’ (elder brother Mohammed). He had been an active Swayamsevak for the last four decades. He was a Swayamsevak of the Pazhoor Sakha and had served as the former Cheeral Mandal Karyavah and Sevapramukh.

Mohammed had been suffering from ill health for the past year after contracting pneumonia, followed by liver ailments and serious complications affecting his internal organs. Despite his physical difficulties and health issues, he tried his level best to discharge his social and Sangh responsibilities.

He joined the Cheeral Sangh Sakha four decades ago with the blessings of his father, Kunjalavi. He had to face strong opposition and many difficulties when he joined the Sangh. He was the first Muslim to join the RSS in Wayanad.

Mohammed faced opposition from Islamic organisations and some neighbours. Still, he did not compromise on his ideology. He attended the last Vijayadashami celebrations in full RSS Ganavesh (uniform). Most of his seva activities were carried out in the backward villages of the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu. He became so familiar to those villages that the villagers still do not believe he is no more.

Mohammed had attended the Pradham Varsha and Dwideeya Varsha Sangh Shiksha Vargs. He was always at the forefront of organisational activities. Simplicity, discipline and selfless service were his defining characteristics. His affectionate behaviour towards others, cutting across political, social and religious differences, made him a beloved figure among the local people. He had also played important roles in the field of sports.

Mohammed was formerly a senior functionary of Bhavana Pazhoor, one of the most prominent arts and sports clubs in Wayanad. He was the sought-after goalkeeper of the Bhavana Pazhoor football team. He was actively involved in social, cultural and RSS activities across the Cheeral and Pazhoor areas. His parents, wife and children extended him unwavering support in all his social and RSS activities.
