LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has stepped up preparations for the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026, one of the country’s largest teacher eligibility examinations, with nearly 20 lakh candidates expected to appear. The examination will be conducted at 955 examination centres spread across 60 districts, with the state administration putting in place elaborate arrangements to ensure a fair, transparent and hassle-free experience for all candidates.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to conduct the examination with complete transparency and zero tolerance towards irregularities. Reviewing the preparations, he emphasised that every candidate should be able to take the examination in a secure, stress-free and well-organised environment, while ensuring that strict measures are in place to prevent malpractice.

Extensive Arrangements for Nearly 20 Lakh Candidates

With lakhs of aspirants expected to travel from different parts of Uttar Pradesh as well as neighbouring states, Uttar Pradesh government has instructed district administrations to make comprehensive arrangements at railway stations, bus terminals and examination centres. Special attention is being given to crowd management, transportation, traffic regulation and public convenience to ensure candidates can reach their examination centres without difficulty.

District authorities have been asked to keep 24×7 control rooms operational to quickly address any complaints or emergencies during the examination. Officials from the administration, police, transport, health and other departments will work together to ensure the exam is conducted smoothly across all districts.

Separate TET for In-Service Teachers

In a major policy decision, the Chief Minister announced that teachers already serving in schools will have a separate Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) instead of appearing alongside fresh candidates. This will reduce pressure on the main examination while addressing the specific requirements of serving teachers. Additionally, in-service teachers appearing in the UPTET scheduled on July 2, 3 and 4 will be granted special leave, ensuring that they do not face any conflict between their official responsibilities and the examination. The admit cards have been released.

The state government has instructed officials to maintain stringent security arrangements at all examination centres. Adequate police deployment, continuous monitoring and strict enforcement of examination guidelines will be ensured to maintain the integrity of the examination process. Authorities have also been asked to provide uninterrupted electricity, clean drinking water, proper sanitation facilities, seating arrangements, medical assistance and emergency healthcare support at every examination centre. Traffic management plans will be implemented around major examination venues to minimise congestion on examination days.

CM Yogi has made it clear that any negligence in conducting the examination will not be tolerated and that officials at every level will be held accountable for ensuring smooth execution.

Anti-Cheating Measures Likely to Remain a Priority

The Uttar Pradesh government has said that UPTET-2026 will be conducted with strict security arrangements to prevent cheating and ensure a fair examination. Examination centres will be closely monitored, and district administrations, police and other departments will work together to ensure the exam is held smoothly and transparently.

About UPTET

UPTET is the mandatory eligibility examination for candidates aspiring to become teachers in primary (Classes I-V) and upper primary (Classes VI-VIII) schools in Uttar Pradesh. It is conducted in accordance with the norms of the National Council for Teacher Education. The examination assesses the teaching aptitude, subject knowledge and pedagogical skills of aspiring teachers. Qualifying UPTET does not guarantee a government teaching job. It only makes candidates eligible to apply for teacher recruitment when vacancies are announced by the state. The certificate is required for recruitment to government schools and is also accepted by many aided and private schools.

With around 20 lakh candidates expected to appear, UPTET-2026 will be one of the biggest teacher eligibility examinations in the state. Officials from various departments, along with police, transport and emergency services, have been deployed to ensure the examination is conducted smoothly and safely. The state government aims to conduct the examination in a fair, transparent and well-organised manner, providing equal opportunities to all candidates aspiring to become teachers.
