Karachi: A suspected suicide bomber attacked the headquarters of the Sindh Rangers in Karachi, killing nine people, including three Rangers personnel, and injuring others, according to local media reports.

The attack reportedly began when the bomber detonated explosives at the main entrance of the Sindh Rangers headquarters. Moments later, other armed assailants allegedly opened fire on security personnel, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire inside and around the premises.

According to reports, the militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that nine of its fighters participated in the assault. Pakistani authorities have not yet officially confirmed the claim.

The attack occurred on a key road in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, a busy locality that connects several universities and provides access to Pakistan’s Meteorological Department.

Police, Rangers personnel and rescue teams rushed to the site soon after reports of the explosion and firing emerged. Authorities cordoned off the area, diverted traffic and launched a security operation to secure the headquarters and search for any remaining attackers, Dawn reported.
