Toronto: Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) in Canada strongly condemned the murder of a young Indian student in the Niagara region of the country. Vidhi Megha was a 22 year old student from the Anand district of Gujarat who was pursuing her higher education in law in Canada. She was brutally murdered in broad daylight. She sustained deep injuries and when she was taken to a nearby hospital by the local residents, she was declared as dead.

The incident has spiked doubts and concern regarding the safety of Indians living in Canada. In recent days, incidents of racism against Indians are soaring in Canada, United States and other countries. As per the government sources, from 2018 to 2025, 17 Indians have lost their life in Canada as an impact of targeted violence.

In this backdrop, Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) has expressed deep sorrow for the death of Vidhi Megha. “Megha came to Canada to pursue her education and build a better future. Her life was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence, leaving her family friends and communities across Canada devastated. VHP Canada extends heartfelt condolences and prayers to her loved ones during this difficult time”, VHP Canada said in its official statement.

VHP Canada also highlighted how growing violence against Indians in Canada have intensified concerns among the community about public safety. Recently Indians are being victims of violence, intimidation, vandalism. There are also threats affecting Hindu institutions and students. Thus the immigrant community in Canada is entangled with leading life with fear, insecurity and uncertainty, VHP Canada further explained the precarious state of Indians in Canada. And how the community members are increasingly concerned about personal safety. International students often far from the family support systems, remain especially vulnerable, VHP Canada further adds.

VHP calls for swift action from the Canadian government

In the backdrop of spiking violence against Indians in Canada, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, called for immediate action from the Canadian government to render justice to the murder of Vidhi Megha and enhance the measures for the safety of Indians in Canada. It urged the Prime Minister of Canada, Premier of Ontario, Members of Parliament, Members of Provincial Parliament, Niagara region Mayor and other municipalities, Niagara Police service and other law enforcement agencies of the country to accelerate immediate action and restore the confidence and morale of the Indians in Canada who are threatened by repeated violence and targeted attacks.

VHP urged for greater safety protocols especially for the international students. It urged for increased police deployment and enhanced crime prevention protocols especially in high-risk areas and odd hours. VHP also reiterated for fast investigations and prosecution of those who commit violent crimes. VHP urged for increased monitoring and check on hate-motivated and community targeted violent acts. It also called on the Canadian government to have frequent contact with Indian associations, community organisations and student groups to ensure community’s well-being and safety.

VHP calls for united action from Hindu community in Canada to enhance public safety

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad also urged the Hindu and Indian community in Canada to unite and demonstrate proactiveness to uphold the safety and security of the people in Canada. Hindu temples, organisations, community leaders, student associations, cultural groups, professionals and all concerned citizens must unite peacefully in support of stronger public safety and protection of all communities. The safety and security of all Canadians regardless of faith and background must remain a national priority, the statement from VHP reiterated.
