The incidents reported during the week spanned a wide geographical range including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, Telangana, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Bangladesh. Several of the cases involved allegations of identity concealment, sexual exploitation, coercion linked to religion, attacks on Hindu temples, vandalism of idols, intimidation of devotees, and disputes concerning religious practices and symbols.

Multiple incidents also triggered public protests and police investigations after social media posts, videos, or promotional material were accused of hurting Hindu religious sentiments. Cases involving alleged misuse of workplace authority, pressure on Hindu employees regarding religious practices, and disputes surrounding media narratives and institutional responses also remained in focus during the week.

Law enforcement agencies in several states initiated FIRs, carried out arrests, launched investigations, and deployed security forces in response to tensions arising from communal clashes, temple-related disputes, attacks on devotees, and allegations of organised conversion networks. In Bangladesh, incidents involving attacks on Hindu temples, priests, devotees and homes again raised concerns regarding the safety of minority Hindu communities.

The developments collectively highlighted continuing concerns surrounding religious identity, communal relations, protection of religious institutions, safety of women and minors, and allegations of targeted exploitation and coercion linked to faith.

Organiser has compiled these developments based on publicly available reports, official statements, and ongoing investigations. Many of the matters remain under investigation or judicial consideration, and inclusion in this roundup should not be construed as a determination of guilt or verification of every allegation.

The detailed incidents from April 13 to April 19, 2026, are given below.

April 13, 2026

1. The Wire Accused of Downplaying Murder of Hindu Youth, Misrepresenting VHP Event in Uttam Nagar

A report published by The Wire on 13 April 2026 drew criticism over its portrayal of the murder of Hindu youth Tarun Kumar in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, and its coverage of a subsequent “Trishul Deeksha” programme organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. The article, authored by Ankit Raj, described the killing as the result of a “minor dispute” and focused extensively on the aftermath faced by the accused Muslim family, including demolition action and their departure from the locality.

Tarun Kumar was beaten to death during Holi celebrations after coloured water was allegedly spilled on a Muslim woman by a child. The report was criticised for reducing the gravity of the incident and for not adequately highlighting the demands for justice raised by the victim’s family, who had lost their only son. Family members of the deceased were present during the Trishul Deeksha event and publicly demanded strict punishment for those accused in the killing.

The article also scrutinised the distribution of around 1,700 tridents during the programme held at Ayyappa Park in Uttam Nagar, portraying the event as a form of mobilisation in a communally sensitive area. Speeches delivered during the programme were described as “fiery,” while the report claimed that minors were among those receiving tridents. Organisers, however, described the tridents as symbolic of “culture, service, and security,” and maintained that such programmes had been conducted earlier as well.

Criticism of the report centred on what was described as selective framing, disproportionate focus on the accused family, and the portrayal of Hindu organisations and responses in a negative light while minimising the communal nature of the killing. The report also drew attention to planned trident distribution programmes across Delhi, presenting them as developments capable of escalating tensions.

2. Encroachment Attempt on Mahad Ganpati Temple Land Sparks Protests in Maharashtra

Land belonging to the Shri Ganpati Sansthan, the trust managing the Mahad Ganpati temple in Raigad district of Maharashtra, was allegedly encroached upon by unidentified individuals who constructed an unauthorised wall on the property and removed the trust’s official signboard. The temple is one of Maharashtra’s revered Ashtavinayak pilgrimage sites and is located near the Mumbai-Pune National Highway.

The encroachment took place on a strategically located plot situated along the main route connecting the highway to the temple. Local residents reportedly noticed the construction activity and stopped it initially. However, the accused later returned during the night and completed the wall construction. The Sansthan’s signboard marking ownership of the land was also removed from the site.

Sansthan working president Mohini Vaidya stated that all ownership documents had been submitted to the Tehsildar, following which orders were issued for removal of the encroachment. Administrator Pranit Bhosale said that if the encroachers failed to remove the construction voluntarily, the Nagar Panchayat would carry out the demolition and recover the expenses from them.

Residents of the village expressed support for the Sansthan and stated that the land was essential for the future requirements of the temple and facilities for devotees. Thousands of pilgrims visit the Mahad Ganpati temple regularly as part of the Ashtavinayak pilgrimage circuit.

3. Priest Assaulted Inside Chitrakoot Temple Amid Dispute Over Control of Shrine

A Hindu priest was assaulted inside the Maa Asawar Shaktipeeth Temple in the Raipura area of Chitrakoot district, Uttar Pradesh, while performing worship rituals. The attack left the priest, Narendra Dwivedi, seriously injured and raised concerns over an ongoing dispute related to control of the temple premises.

Narendra Dwivedi and his uncle, Mahant Shankar Dayal Dwivedi, had been managing the temple and conducting daily religious rituals for nearly a decade. According to the complaint submitted to authorities, Bharatdas alias Bharatlal and his associates had been attempting for a prolonged period to take control of the temple. The priest had allegedly faced repeated threats and earlier attacks in connection with the dispute, and complaints had previously been filed with police and administrative officials.

During the evening worship on 14 April 2026, Bharatdas, along with Rajjan Tiwari, Gilla Yadav, Changu Yadav, and several unidentified individuals, allegedly entered the temple premises and attacked Narendra Dwivedi while he was engaged in prayers. He suffered a severe injury to his hand during the assault, which took place inside the temple during the ongoing ritual.

The priest later submitted a petition to District Magistrate Pulkit Garg seeking protection for himself and his family, strict action against the accused, and intervention to prevent any illegal occupation of the temple. Authorities stated that the matter was under investigation, while local residents expressed concern over the possibility of further escalation if prompt action was not taken.

4. Minor Hindu girls lured, brainwashed and sexually exploited with obscene videos circulated in Amravati, Maharashtra

In Amravati district, Maharashtra, minor girls-mostly Hindu-were lured, sexually exploited and secretly recorded by a 19‑year‑old Muslim man, Ayan Ahmed, with the help of an accomplice, Ujer Khan Iqbal Khan. The case came to light in Paratwada when authorities uncovered a large‑scale pattern of sexual exploitation and blackmail involving explicit images and videos of several young women, many of whom were students. Ayan contacted the girls through social‑media platforms such as WhatsApp and Snapchat, as well as through local coaching centres, gradually building trust and then using that trust to initiate physical relationships. During these encounters he recorded the acts without consent and later used the recordings for blackmail and control.

Authorities have reported that around 180 girls were targeted in the case, including minor school‑going students, college‑going women and other young women. Rajya Sabha MP Dr Anil Bonde, who has raised the matter with the Maharashtra Police, stated that the majority of the victims were Hindu, some were Muslim and several were minors. Police recovered approximately 350 objectionable photos and videos linked to the accused, many of which were circulated on social‑media platforms, causing humiliation and deep distress among the victims. The accused used the videos to threaten the girls with public exposure, to pressure them into further compliance and to maintain ongoing control over them, warning that their images would be shared widely if they refused to cooperate. At this stage, seven to eight victims have been formally identified through video evidence, screenshots and direct contact, even though the total number of affected girls may be significantly higher.

The primary perpetrator, Ayan Ahmed, a 19‑year‑old man associated with the AIMIM, was arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody for an extended period. A case has been registered under Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, relevant provisions of the POCSO Act and the Information Technology Act, 2000, while police seized his mobile phone and are retrieving deleted data for forensic examination. His accomplice, Ujer Khan Iqbal Khan, was also arrested for his role in downloading obscene material from Ayan’s phone and circulating around 100 videos on social‑media platforms, which greatly amplified the damage and reach of the crime. Police are investigating whether a larger network of individuals was involved in filming, distributing or otherwise facilitating the circulation of the explicit content, and have initiated legal action against those found downloading, sharing or recirculating the videos.

The victims in this case are recorded as 180 girls, all female and predominantly minors, with no information publicly available on their caste or exact ages beyond the broad description of school‑going and college‑going students. Authorities have not disclosed individual identities, in line with protections for sexual‑violence survivors, and the case status is listed as “arrested,” with both accused in custody and the investigation underway.

5. Muslim Gym Trainer Arrested for Blackmail and Extortion of Woman in Surat

A Muslim gym trainer identified as Shabbir Azgar Trunkwala was arrested in Surat, Gujarat, following allegations of stalking, blackmail, and extortion involving a Hindu woman from a high-profile family. The complaint was registered at Pal Police Station after the victim’s family alleged prolonged harassment and threats by the accused.

The woman had reportedly come into contact with the accused nearly seven years earlier after joining Pooja L1 Gym in the City Light area, where he worked as a trainer. Over time, he allegedly developed a personal relationship with her and later began stalking her, frequently loitering near her residence on a motorcycle.

According to the complaint, the situation escalated when the accused visited the woman’s residence in the Pal area around seven months before the case surfaced. During a confrontation with the woman’s husband, he allegedly threatened to release private photographs and videos from earlier trips and demanded ₹5 lakh in exchange for not making the material public.

Another incident was reported near Bhulka Bhavan School in Adajan, where the accused allegedly intercepted the husband, damaged his motorcycle mirror, threatened him using a sharp glass shard, and forcibly took ₹50,000 in cash while continuing to demand additional money.

Following the complaint, the Special Operations Group of Surat Police arrested the accused and initiated legal proceedings. Police stated that the accused had allegedly misused the trust developed during the woman’s gym visits and used private material to threaten and extort the family. Authorities also began examining whether any similar complaints or additional victims were linked to the accused.

6. Complaint Filed Over Use of Temple Funds for Foreign Nationals in Visakhapatnam

A complaint was filed in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, alleging misuse of Hindu temple funds and public welfare resources by District Collector Muttimbaku Abhishikth Kishore. The complaint accused the official of sanctioning financial assistance to two Iranian nationals using funds meant for economically weaker Indian citizens and temple-related purposes.

According to the complaint, each foreign national received ₹50,000 from the District Sanjeevani Fund, a welfare scheme intended for emergency medical assistance to Indian citizens. An additional ₹50,000 each was reportedly disbursed from the funds of the Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple, taking the total assistance to more than ₹1 lakh per individual.

The Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple is a prominent Hindu temple in Visakhapatnam, and its finances are governed under the Andhra Pradesh Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions and Endowments Act. Temple funds are designated for religious activities, rituals, maintenance, and related purposes connected to the institution.

The Legal Rights Protection Forum submitted a formal complaint before the Department of Personnel and Training and the Andhra Pradesh government, alleging violations of statutory provisions and misuse of official authority. The complaint stated that the District Sanjeevani Fund guidelines did not permit disbursal to foreign nationals and argued that such assistance should have been routed through diplomatic or central government channels.

The organisation sought a detailed probe into the matter, recovery of the disbursed funds, and disciplinary as well as criminal action against the District Collector. The issue drew attention due to concerns among devotees regarding the use of temple funds outside their stated religious and institutional purposes.

7. Hindu Doctor Threatened and Surrounded by Group at Aligarh Muslim University

A Hindu doctor, Dr Kulwant Singh, was allegedly abused and threatened by a group of Muslim students at Aligarh Muslim University after his religious identity became known during a visit to the campus in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.

Dr Kulwant Singh, a resident of Nagalia Mev in Amroha district, had visited the university campus on 14 April 2026 to meet a female friend studying there. After leaving the campus in an e-rickshaw, he was reportedly stopped near the university premises by a group of youths. More students were allegedly called to the spot, and around 30 people surrounded him for nearly half an hour.

According to the complaint, two accused identified as Shahbaz Izharul Haq of Ghazipur and Najeeb Haseeb of Bareilly allegedly issued threats and used abusive language during the confrontation. The doctor stated that he was threatened with violence and warned that “only Muslims have a say here” while the campus was described as “mini Pakistan.”

Fearing for his safety, Dr Kulwant Singh contacted Dial 112 seeking police assistance. Police personnel and the university proctorial team reached the spot, intervened, and escorted him safely out of the area.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case and began examining CCTV footage, which led to the identification of the two accused. Both were arrested on 20 April 2026 with assistance from university authorities and were later sent to jail. Police stated that further investigation into the involvement of other individuals in the incident was ongoing.

8. Restaurant Poster Depicting Lord Krishna With Meat Sparks Protests in Kerala

A social media post shared by Yamama Shawaya Hotel, a Muslim-owned restaurant in Malappuram district of Kerala, triggered protests and police action after it depicted Lord Krishna alongside a plate of cooked chicken during Vishu celebrations.

The poster was shared on 14 April 2026 as part of Vishu greetings on the restaurant’s official social media account. The image showed Lord Krishna in a child-like traditional pose holding a laddu, with a large plate of chicken placed in front of him. The post also carried the phrase “Serving the prosperity of taste” and referenced “kuzhi mandi.” The image circulated widely online before being deleted on 17 April following objections from Hindu groups and local residents.

The incident drew strong reactions from members of the Hindu community during Vishu, the Malayalam New Year festival observed across Kerala. Leaders of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad submitted a complaint to the Malappuram Superintendent of Police seeking a detailed investigation into the matter and raising concerns over similar incidents in the state.

Following the complaint, Mankada police registered a case under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on charges related to promoting communal disharmony. Police later arrested three accused identified as Mustafa of Pookottoor, Shahul Hameed, and Muhammed Shahil of Eramthode.

During the investigation, authorities seized two mobile phones and a tablet allegedly used in creating and circulating the image. Hindu Aikyavedi also organised a protest outside the restaurant demanding strict legal action against those responsible.

9. Hindu Employees Allege Religious Conversion Pressure to Islam by Seniors at TCS Office in Chennai

Allegations of religious conversion pressure surfaced at the Chennai office of Tata Consultancy Services after Hindu employees claimed they were targeted and coerced by Muslim colleagues and seniors to convert to Islam.

The matter came to light on 14 April 2026 after testimonies from Hindu employees began circulating on social media. The allegations centred around a manager identified as Tabrez Mohammed, who, according to one testimony, was formerly known as Diwakar before converting to Islam in 2016. Employees alleged that Tabrez Mohammed, along with his superior Mohammad Mustafa, used their positions within the company hierarchy to pressure Hindu subordinates towards religious conversion.

Victims stated that repeated conversion-related discussions and pressure created a hostile and uncomfortable work environment. One former Hindu colleague alleged that fear of professional retaliation and adverse career consequences prevented victims from speaking publicly about their experiences earlier.

The issue gained wider attention online, with several social media users demanding that Tata Consultancy Services address the allegations and ensure protection of employees’ rights within the workplace.

The controversy also drew attention due to earlier allegations linked to the company’s Nashik office, where claims of forced conversion, harassment and exploitation of Hindu employees had previously emerged. At the time of reporting, no official statement regarding the Chennai allegations had been publicly issued.

10. Hindu Family Attacked After Dispute During Bhim Army Rally in Sidhi

A Hindu family was allegedly attacked by a mob during violence linked to a Bhim Army rally in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh on 14 April 2026, leaving multiple people injured and triggering tension in the area.

According to reports, the incident began when Mani Shukla parked his Bolero vehicle on a road where a Bhim Army procession dedicated to Dr B R Ambedkar was passing. Following the dispute, a large group of Bhim Army supporters allegedly entered his residence and assaulted family members. The attackers also damaged the vehicle parked outside the house.

The violence escalated after local residents reacted to the incident and clashes broke out between members of the Hindu community and Bhim Army supporters. During the confrontation, stone pelting was reported from both sides. Bhim Army members later reached the police station where vandalism was also reported. Vehicles parked outside the police station premises were damaged and some police personnel were allegedly assaulted during the unrest.

A total of 14 people, including two women and an elderly man, sustained injuries in the violence. One seriously injured YOUTH was referred to Rewa for further medical treatment.

Senior police officials and the District Magistrate reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. Heavy police deployment was carried out in the area to control the situation and prevent further escalation.

Police registered a First Information Report in connection with the violence and stated that efforts were underway to identify and arrest the accused persons involved in the attack and subsequent clashes.

An elderly Hindu devotee was found murdered inside the Singibaari MahaShashan Kali Temple premises in Nilphamari district of Bangladesh on 14 April 2026, triggering concern and distress among local residents.

The deceased was identified as Prabhat Roy, who was known in the area for his disciplined lifestyle and regular temple worship. According to family members, he had left home in the morning after informing them that he was going to bring banana leaves following preparations for puja. When he did not return for a prolonged period, relatives and locals began searching for him.

His body was later discovered inside the temple premises near the deity worshipped by him daily. Reports stated that his throat had been slit. Local residents informed the police after finding the bloodied body around 10 am.

Police sent the body to Nilphamari General Hospital for postmortem examination. Citing the inquest report, officials confirmed the presence of an injury mark on the left side of his neck. An investigation into the killing remained underway at the time of reporting.

The incident occurred amid reports of continued violence and tension affecting Hindu communities in several parts of Bangladesh following the 13th National Parliamentary Election 2026. Incidents of arson, vandalism, assault, and attacks on Hindu homes and temples had been reported from multiple districts in recent months, including Nilphamari, Rangpur, Noakhali, Sylhet, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur.

Local residents expressed shock over the killing, particularly because the victim was attacked within the temple premises where he regularly performed worship.

12. Hindu Sentiments Hurt After Temple Pathway Allegedly Encroached in Meerut Village

Residents of Sindhawali village in the Kankarkheda police station area of Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh, approached the police on 14 April 2026 alleging that the pathway leading to a Shiva temple had been encroached upon, causing obstruction to devotees visiting the temple.

According to the complaint submitted by villagers, the pathway, which was originally around 52 feet wide, had gradually been reduced to nearly 14 feet due to alleged encroachment. Villagers stated that the narrowing of the route disrupted access to the temple and affected the movement of devotees.

A group of villagers arrived at the Kankarkheda police station in a tractor trolley and jointly submitted a written complaint. Those named in the complaint included former village head Shrichand and his son Sheetal, who were accused of carrying out the encroachment along the stretch leading to the temple.

Sheetal stated that soil had been placed on the path to prevent water from entering his agricultural field and claimed that the soil was later removed.

Inspector Gambhir Singh of Kankarkheda police station received the complaint and assured the villagers that the matter would be investigated and legal action would be taken after examination of the facts. The matter was under investigation at the time of reporting.

April 15, 2026

13. Hindu Woman Taken to Uttar Pradesh Village by Married Muslim Man Amid Forced Conversion Allegations

A Hindu woman from Nepal was brought to Chhibramau in Uttar Pradesh by a Muslim man who allegedly used the pretext of his sister’s wedding to persuade her to travel from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where she worked at a beauty parlour and had become acquainted with him.

The accused reportedly developed a friendship with the woman over a period of time before convincing her to accompany him to his native village in the Chhibramau area. The woman later discovered that the man was already married.

After her arrival in Sarania village, rumours spread locally that she had been forcibly converted to Islam and married through nikah, leading to a police inquiry into the matter.

During the investigation, police established that the woman belonged to Nepal and contacted her family. Her relatives later arrived at Chhibramau police station, where legal formalities were completed before she was handed over to them. The family subsequently returned to Nepal.

Inspector Pradeep Chaturvedi confirmed that the accused, who had brought the woman from Ahmedabad to Chhibramau, was absconding and efforts were underway to trace him.

14. Hindu Sentiments Outraged After Defilement of Radha-Krishna Temple in North East Delhi

A Radha-Krishna temple in Brijpuri under the Dayalpur police station area of North East Delhi was allegedly targeted for defilement by a Muslim man identified as Fahim.

The incident came to light after devotees noticed a condom allegedly filled with urine tied to the temple gate between decorative flower garlands used during worship. A video of the incident was recorded by local devotees and later circulated widely on social media, triggering outrage among residents and Hindu organisations.

As the video spread online on 15 April 2026, demands were raised for immediate police action against those responsible. Local residents described the act as an insult to religious sentiments and a desecration of the temple premises.

Subsequently, police registered a First Information Report and arrested the accused, Fahim. CCTV footage circulating on social media allegedly showed the accused arriving at the temple at night with his face covered before hanging the object at the temple entrance.

Police stated that further investigation was underway and the possible involvement of other individuals in the incident was also being examined.

15. Hindu Sentiments Hurt After Lord Hanuman Mocked in Play Staged at Madrasa in Budaun

A controversy erupted in Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh after a play performed at a madrasa allegedly mocked Lord Hanuman and Hindu religious practices. The incident came to light after a video of the performance surfaced on social media, triggering protests and objections from local Hindu organisations and residents.

The skit was performed by minor students of the madrasa and was presented as a satire linked to the gas cylinder issue. In the performance, one student was dressed as Lord Hanuman, while another portrayed a Hindu devotee wearing saffron attire. During the act, the devotee was shown offering incense sticks and prasad to Lord Hanuman while demanding a gas cylinder in return. One of the dialogues in the performance stated, “If you can’t get a gas cylinder, what’s the use of Hanuman?” Another dialogue compared Lord Hanuman to a “DM office ka babu.”

The video also showed the character portraying Lord Hanuman using abusive and derogatory language. The portrayal was widely criticised by local residents and Hindu groups, who termed it disrespectful towards a revered Hindu deity and demanded action against those responsible for organising and permitting the performance.

Following the circulation of the video, police took cognisance of the matter and initiated an inquiry. Authorities stated that legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Some protesting groups also raised additional concerns regarding the madrasa and demanded a broader inquiry into related issues.

16. Hindu Sentiments Hurt After Temples and Hindu Homes Attacked During Bengali New Year Celebrations in Dhaka

Violence erupted in Savar, Dhaka district of Bangladesh, after Hindu homes, temples, and properties were attacked by a Muslim mob during Bengali New Year celebrations. The attacks disrupted ongoing festivities and created panic among members of the local Hindu community.

Reports stated that the violence specifically targeted Hindu residences and religious sites during the celebrations.

Following the attacks, police and local authorities increased security deployment in the area. The incident drew attention amid continuing reports of violence against Hindu minorities in different parts of Bangladesh following the 13th National Parliamentary Election 2026.

Tension prevailed in Triveniganj town of Bihar’s Supaul district after miscreants targeted a Hindu temple near the Chiloni river bridge and defaced idols of Hindu deities. The incident came to light on the morning of 16 April 2026, when devotees visiting the temple found idols of Lord Hanuman, Lord Rama and Lakshmana blackened with soot. Objectionable and lewd remarks targeting the temple priest were also found written on the temple walls.

The act was reportedly carried out during the night after unidentified persons entered the temple premises, switched off the lights and vandalised the consecrated idols. The temple, constructed through community contributions, had recently installed new idols of Lord Rama and Lakshmana seated on Hanuman’s shoulders during Ram Navami celebrations, making the incident particularly sensitive for local residents.

News of the desecration spread rapidly across the area, drawing large numbers of people to the temple premises. Residents expressed anger over the incident and recalled that a smaller idol at the same temple had allegedly been damaged earlier as well.

Following information about the incident, senior police and administrative officials reached the spot and deployed security personnel along with a magistrate to maintain order. The defaced idols were covered and arrangements were made to clean the temple premises and remove the objectionable writings.

Temple priest Etwari Sharma stated that he had locked the temple premises the previous evening and later found the idols vandalised. Police initiated an investigation to identify those responsible. A Hindu girl from Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly lured away from her home by a Muslim man, following which police registered a case related to an attempted unlawful religious conversion and arrested the accused.

The matter came to light after the victim’s mother submitted a written complaint at Kotwali Dehat police station on 14 April 2026. In her complaint, she alleged that a 22-year-old man had deceived her daughter and taken her away with the intention of forcibly converting her to Islam.

Acting on the complaint, police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act. Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik directed immediate action, following which a special police team was constituted under senior officers to recover the girl and arrest the accused.

19. Hindu Religious Beliefs Violated After Muslim Man Allegedly Fed Buffalo Meat to Hindu Boy

A controversy erupted in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, after a Muslim man was accused of deliberately feeding buffalo meat to a Hindu boy, leading to allegations of hurting Hindu religious sentiments and violating religious dietary practices associated with the faith.

The matter gained attention after members of the Kali Sena, led by state president Bhupesh Joshi, circulated a video on social media in which Joshi was seen confronting and assaulting the accused man while accusing him of intentionally feeding buffalo meat to the Hindu boy. The video also showed abusive language being used during the altercation.

According to information shared in the video, the incident was viewed by members of the organisation as an insult to Hindu religious beliefs and customs. The footage spread widely across social media platforms, drawing reactions over both the alleged act of feeding meat to the boy and the subsequent assault carried out by the organisation members.

The victim was identified as a Hindu boy whose religious sentiments and dietary beliefs were allegedly violated through the deliberate feeding of buffalo meat.

The accused was identified as a Muslim man. Members of the Kali Sena alleged that the act was carried out intentionally, while the group’s response later escalated into physical violence. The case status remained unclear at the time of reporting.

20. Hindu Religious Symbols Restricted at Indian Retail Chain, Triggering Sentiment Concerns

An Indian multinational retail company faced allegations of discriminatory workplace practices after documents and videos surfaced showing restrictions on Hindu religious symbols such as bindi, kalava and sindoor, while permitting the hijab for employees.

The controversy emerged after a customer visiting a store questioned staff members regarding the company’s dress code. In a video that later circulated widely on social media, an employee stated that wearing kalava and bindi was not allowed at the workplace, while the hijab was permitted. The employee further said that workers reporting with prohibited items could be asked to leave for the day unless they complied with company rules.

The employee also stated that kalava could only be worn if concealed beneath sleeves so that it remained invisible inside the store. Soon after, pages from the company’s internal grooming and uniform guidelines surfaced online. The documents reportedly instructed employees not to wear religious threads or visible bindis, while allowing hijab and turban under specified conditions. Another section mentioned that sindoor, if worn, should remain minimal.

The issue intensified online after several social media users questioned the differing treatment of Hindu religious symbols and other forms of religious attire. Posts criticising the policy were widely circulated, with users demanding clarification from the company.

As criticism mounted, company founder and CEO Peyush Bansal reportedly described the circulated documents as outdated or inaccurate before later stating that such policies had existed earlier and had since been amended.

Darshan Solanki, an 18-year-old student from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, had secured admission to IIT-B through the Joint Entrance Examination and was residing in the institute hostel. On 12 February 2023, he died after jumping from the seventh floor of his hostel building. A suicide note recovered from his room stated that Arman Iqbal had killed him. Handwriting experts later confirmed the authenticity of the note.

Investigators stated that Darshan had confided in another student a day before his death, expressing fear of Arman and warning him not to be seen with him. He was granted bail in May 2023 and continued his studies at IIT-B. In 2025, he approached the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of charges but later withdrew the petition.

On 15 April 2026, the special court formally framed charges based on witness statements, the suicide note, and other evidence submitted in the chargesheet by the Special Public Prosecutor. Arman pleaded not guilty, following which the trial commenced.

The accused, identified as Nawaz from Nellore, reportedly came into contact with the woman and her family in Kukatpally in May 2025. He introduced himself under a Hindu identity, claimed that he had converted to Hinduism, and allegedly produced documents to support the claim. His brothers, identified as Munawar, Shahrukh, and Ismail, also reportedly supported the false identity before the woman’s family. Based on these representations, the marriage took place in July 2025.

The woman alleged that after marriage, her name was changed to Nazira and she later discovered that Nawaz had already been married twice. Following this, she alleged that she was threatened and taken to a dargah in Gulbarga, where she was forced to undergo religious conversion rituals and recite the Kalma against her will.

According to the complaint, the woman was repeatedly pressured to follow Islamic practices and was allegedly forced to consume beef. She further alleged that she was administered intoxicating substances and sexually assaulted at a resort in Begumpet. The complaint also accused Nawaz’s brothers of participating in the assaults.

The woman stated that photos and videos of the assaults were recorded and later used to blackmail her. She alleged that threats were issued against her mother and sister to prevent her from approaching authorities. She also accused the perpetrators of taking loans in her name, stealing gold ornaments, and selling a flat in Shamshabad without her consent.

Unable to bear the continued abuse, the woman approached Kukatpally police station and filed a complaint. Following the complaint, the accused reportedly fled from Hyderabad to Nellore. He later released a video denying the allegations and attempting to counter the accusations made against him.

24. Sacred Hindu Scripture and Deities Mocked at Kerala Literature Festival, Complaint Filed Against Actor Prakash Raj

Actor-director Prakash Raj sparked controversy after making remarks mocking the Ramayan and revered Hindu deities during a session at the Kerala Literature Festival held in January 2026. Video clips of the speech surfaced online in March 2026 and triggered widespread criticism on social media, with many users accusing the actor of hurting Hindu religious sentiments.

During the address, Prakash Raj presented a distorted retelling of the Ramayan, portraying Lord Ram and Lakshman in a satirical manner while invoking a North-South narrative. In his narration, Ram, Lakshman, and Sita were depicted travelling to the South, entering a field identified as “Ravan’s land,” and eating fruits grown there. He further described Ravana as a tribal man from South India and inserted modern references, including GST and monetary transactions, into the retelling.

The actor stated that the version was inspired by a play created by children during a theatre workshop. He also remarked that those coming to work in Kerala should “learn Malayalam” and should not “ask us not to eat beef,” comments that drew additional criticism online.

Following the circulation of the video, several social media users objected to what they described as a mockery of the Ramayan and Hindu beliefs. Some also demanded his removal from the film Varanasi, in which he is reportedly playing Lord Shiva, while others called for boycotts of his projects.

Advocate Amita Sachdeva subsequently filed a criminal complaint against Prakash Raj at the South District Cyber Cell of Delhi Police under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act. Rakesh Sharma alleged before police that Afsar Qureshi, along with his aunt and a maulana, had assaulted him and pressured him to convert to Islam. He further alleged that he was compelled to perform Islamic rituals, including wudu and namaz, and was force-fed beef.

Tension prevailed in Jharkhand’s Chatra district after unknown miscreants allegedly defaced the wall of a Hindu temple with objectionable and derogatory remarks targeting revered Hindu deities, including Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. The incident triggered outrage among local Hindus, who described it as a direct insult to their religious faith and sacred beliefs.

The matter came to light when villagers arrived at the temple in the morning to offer prayers and noticed abusive words inscribed on the temple wall. The offensive content, directed against Hindu deities, immediately spread anger across the locality, with residents gathering at the site and demanding strict action against those responsible.

Local villagers stated that the incident deeply hurt Hindu religious sentiments and was viewed as a deliberate attempt to provoke communal tension by insulting sacred symbols of the Hindu faith. The defacement of the temple premises led to widespread resentment among devotees and members of the Hindu community.

Rahul Kumar, a local resident, stated that similar incidents had taken place in the area earlier as well, but no effective police action had followed. Residents alleged that repeated acts targeting the same temple reflected a continuing pattern of hostility towards Hindu religious spaces.

Following the incident, members of the Hindu community staged protests in the area and local market shops remained shut as part of the agitation. Protesters demanded immediate identification and arrest of the perpetrators and warned that demonstrations would continue until strict action was taken.

In view of the growing tension, police deployed heavy security in the locality and intensified monitoring in the area to prevent any escalation of the situation. 28. Vulnerable Hindu families targeted for conversion by Christian Pastor  through monetary inducements as bishop faces fraud allegations in Agra

A case involving alleged financial fraud and religious conversion activities has surfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district, where institutional funds were allegedly diverted and used to target vulnerable Hindu families for conversion through monetary inducements and sustained influence operations.

The matter came before the court after Hindu social activist Jugendra Singh, a resident of Sadabad in Hathras district, sought legal intervention regarding alleged diversion of institutional resources and their use in activities affecting economically vulnerable Hindu communities. Acting on his petition filed on 24 March 2026, the court directed Hariparvat police station in Agra to register a case and begin an investigation against Bishop Vijay Kumar Nayak and two unidentified individuals.

According to the complaint, Vijay Kumar Nayak, originally from Odisha’s Kandhamal district, had previously served in the Phulbani Diocese before being transferred to the Agra Diocese of the Church of North India. After assuming charge, he allegedly gained access to the financial systems of institutions operating several schools and colleges under the diocese.

The complaint alleged that institutional funds were withdrawn and transferred into accounts linked to relatives and associates of the accused. It was further alleged that a portion of the diverted money was routed to Daringbadi in Odisha, where construction activities related to St Peter’s English Medium Public School were carried out.

The petitioner alleged that the diverted funds were subsequently utilised to influence poor and tribal Hindu families through financial inducements and material assistance linked to religious conversion activities. Economically vulnerable Hindu households were allegedly offered benefits and support, creating sustained pressure on families dependent on such assistance.

The complaint further stated that tribal Hindu communities and economically weaker sections were specifically targeted through repeated engagement and inducement-based outreach. It was alleged that educational and institutional structures were used to establish long-term influence over susceptible Hindu families.

Before approaching the court, the matter had reportedly been raised with Hariparvat police station and senior police officials, but no action followed. Following the court’s directive, police registered a First Information Report and initiated an investigation into the allegations.

Police officials stated that further legal action would depend on the evidence collected during the course of the investigation.

29. Hindu CA Student Allegedly Targeted Through Fake Identity in Conversion Racket Linked Probe

A Hindu Chartered Accountancy student from Didwana in Rajasthan was allegedly groomed and influenced through social media by a Muslim woman identified as Ayesha, who reportedly used the alias “SB Krishna” to conceal her identity. According to police findings and statements cited in the case, the accused established contact with the student by presenting herself as a sister figure and gradually built trust through sustained interaction and repeated money transfers.

Investigators stated that arrangements were later made to move the student from Rajasthan through Jaipur and Delhi to Kolkata, where she was allegedly to be converted to Islam. The matter came to light after Hindu activists intervened and alerted authorities, following which the movement was halted and the case came under investigation.

Police said the student remained in contact with the accused for a prolonged period and initially did not file any complaint as she believed the woman was offering guidance and support. According to the victim’s family, plans had been made to take her to Kolkata in a manner similar to other cases under investigation, but the matter surfaced before the relocation could take place. After counselling, the student recorded her statement with the police. ADCP Aditya Kumar stated that statements from seven victims had been recorded in connection with the broader case.

Investigations linked the matter to an organised interstate conversion racket earlier uncovered in Agra. Police stated that the network allegedly used fake identities, social media platforms, dating applications, and coordinated roles to approach Hindu women, build emotional relationships, and subsequently pressure them towards religious conversion. Authorities also claimed that some members of the network had links with banned organisations, including PFI, SIMI, and Lashkar-e-Taiba, and that foreign funding was used to facilitate the operations.

As part of the investigation, police teams conducted raids in multiple states, including West Bengal, Rajasthan, Delhi, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. Several accused, including the alleged mastermind Abdul Rehman, were arrested. A missing Hindu girl from Haryana was also rescued during the operation, according to police officials.

As per the complaint, the accused recorded objectionable photographs of the victim without her consent and later used them to threaten her with public circulation on social media. Under this pressure, she was repeatedly taken to lodges and subjected to continued exploitation.

The victim also stated that the accused deliberately removed her Hindu religious identifiers, including her Tulsi mala, bindi, and kalava (sacred thread), and pressured her to abandon her faith. She further alleged that she was compelled to adopt Islamic practices and made to take an oath associated with “Ghazwa-e-Hind.”

The incidents reportedly took place between June 2024 and January 2026 across multiple locations, including lodges, college premises, and other private spaces. 36. Hindu minor boy abducted, sexually exploited and blackmailed by Muslim woman in honeytrap racket in Lucknow

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a 16‑year‑old Hindu minor boy was abducted, sexually exploited and blackmailed by a Muslim woman identified as Atika Siddiqui, who operates as part of a honeytrap network targeting Hindu males and teenage boys. The boy, a resident of the Thakurganj area, had been in contact with Siddiqui through social communication channels, and she gradually gained his trust before luring him away from home. On the day the case surfaced, his family reported that he had gone missing after being taken out of the city by the accused, who transported him to Nainital and kept him away from his guardians for several days.

During his confinement in Nainital, the accused forced the Hindu minor boy into physical relations against his will and recorded obscene videos of the acts without his consent. She then used these recordings to extort money from his family, sending the explicit clips to them and demanding a ransom of 25 lakh rupees. She threatened to circulate the videos widely on social‑media platforms if the family failed to comply, subjecting them to sustained psychological pressure and fear. The investigation revealed that this was not an isolated incident, but part of a broader honeytrap pattern in which the accused targeted Hindu men and teenage boys by creating compromising material through deception and then using that material for blackmail and financial extortion.

Atika Siddiqui later attempted to reverse the case by filing a complaint alleging that the Hindu boy, along with a journalist and two others, had gang‑raped her. Authorities, however, found this complaint to be false and corroborated the family’s version of events, including video evidence in which she was caught demanding the 25‑lakh‑rupee ransom from the boy’s relatives. On the same day the matter came to light, police arrested Siddiqui in connection with the case and booked her under charges that include kidnapping, rape, extortion and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The investigation has confirmed that the incident forms part of a repeated pattern of similar crimes allegedly carried out by her network, with further inquiry still underway.

The victim in this case is a single Hindu minor boy, recorded as 16 years old and belonging to the general category; his caste and exact name have not been disclosed in public reports, and authorities have treated him as a protected minor survivor. The case status is listed as “arrested,” with the accused in custody and the probe continuing. The Hinduphobia Tracker has placed the incident in its “Undecided” database because, while the accused’s network is reported to have disproportionately targeted Hindu males and teenagers, including boys, available evidence so far points more strongly to a criminal‑extortion pattern than to explicit religious hostility. No clear markers of anti‑Hindu animus have been publicly established, and the case will be reassessed if further material emerges indicating that the boy was deliberately selected for his Hindu identity.

37. Allegations of Organised Conversion Network and Financial Irregularities Linked to Christian Missionaries in Chhattisgarh

In Chhattisgarh, Chhattisgarh, an investigation report dated 30 April 2026 examined the functioning and internal materials of an organisation identified as The Timothy Initiative (TTI), along with financial transactions that came under scrutiny during enforcement agency action in April 2026.

The report states that internal training manuals attributed to the organisation described structured outreach and “church planting” activities across villages. One of the manuals was said to focus on engagement strategies involving non-Christian communities, including Hindus, and outlined methods for religious communication and outreach in village settings.

It further notes that certain sections of the material discussed Hindu philosophical concepts such as karma and reincarnation in a comparative religious framework, alongside guidance for missionary engagement and response approaches during outreach interactions.

The document also describes villages with Hindu populations as areas of structured outreach focus and outlines step-by-step training content for individuals involved in field-level religious work. It includes references to communication methods, narrative framing, and community engagement techniques intended for expansion of church networks.

Separately, enforcement agencies conducted searches at multiple premises linked to the organisation on 18–19 April 2026. According to findings cited in the report, financial transactions involving large-scale cash withdrawals through foreign-linked debit cards were examined. Authorities reportedly recovered debit cards, cash, and digital devices during the operation, and an individual was detained for questioning at an airport in Bengaluru.

The investigation further noted that funds were withdrawn across multiple states, including regions in Chhattisgarh, and that the transaction pattern appeared structured. The organisation’s financial activities, including inflows and withdrawals, are under examination for compliance with regulatory provisions related to foreign funding.

The matter remains under investigation, with authorities reviewing both financial records and operational documentation to determine the scope and nature of activities.

The matter surfaced after a complaint was filed through local political representatives on behalf of the victims. Police subsequently conducted a search at the accused’s residence in Bhimtal, during which multiple mobile phones and items of value were recovered. However, the accused had reportedly fled before the search operation.

One of the complainants alleged that after the accused’s true identity was revealed, pressure was exerted on her to convert religion and continue the relationship under that condition. She also alleged threats of defamation in case of refusal.

According to the complaint and the victim’s statements recorded during the investigation, the two accused took the girl to an undisclosed location, where she was sexually assaulted and subjected to repeated pressure to change her religious identity. The case was formally registered as an FIR on 18 April 2026, with charges framed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, sections related to rape and abetment to religious conversion. The victim told investigators that the accused forced her into physical relations, held her in conditions of restricted autonomy and then demanded that she convert to Islam and marry both of them, treating her not as an individual but as a religious target.

On 20 April 2026, police from the Chikasi police station area recovered the minor girl from Mangaroth Mod and sent her for medical examination to document the physical evidence of the abuse. The accused, Imran alias Sipten and Rihaan, were arrested from the same locality and produced before the court, where they were remanded in judicial custody. The arresting team included Sub‑Inspector Bhulairam Yadav, Head Constable Dara Singh and female constable Neha Devi, who maintained that the victim was recovered safely and that the case was being treated as a serious instance of child sexual exploitation, abduction and ideologically motivated pressure to convert. Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing, with further scrutiny of the accused’s prior conduct and any potential wider network.

The victim in this case is a single minor Hindu girl, recorded as under 18 years of age and belonging to the general category; her caste and exact name have not been disclosed in public reports, and authorities have treated her as a protected child survivor. The case status is listed as “arrested,” with both accused in custody and the legal process underway. The perpetrators, Imran alias Sipten and Rihaan, are described as male Muslim adults whose alleged conduct followed a structured pattern of grooming, control, sexual violence and faith‑based coercion, which the Hinduphobia Tracker has documented as a religiously motivated hate crime because the exploitation consciously targeted the girl’s Hindu identity and sought to replace it with a prescribed religious allegiance under conditions where any notion of consent is legally and morally void.
