Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on May 28 said that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has been playing a transformative role in shaping the youth of the country by guiding them not only towards successful careers but also towards national service, leadership, and character building.
The Chief Minister was addressing the grand ‘Civic Reception Programme’ organised by ABVP on the eve of its National Executive Council Meeting at Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University in Bhubaneswar.
The event witnessed the participation of ABVP karyakartas, old Karyakartas, intellectuals, academicians, social leaders, across Odisha.
Along with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the dais was graced by ABVP National President Prof. Raghuraj Kishore Tiwari, National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, Odisha (Purv) State President Dr. Devesh Shankar Hota, Odisha (Purv) State Secretary Diptimayee Pratihari, Reception Committee President Prabodh Mohanty, and Reception Committee General Secretary Ajay Agrawal.

ABVP National Organising Secretary Ashish Chauhan and National Joint Organising Secretaries S. Balakrishna, Govind Nayak, and Devdutt Joshi were also present during the programme.
Several eminent citizens of Bhubaneswar, educationists, intellectuals, and former student karyakartas of ABVP attended the event in large numbers, making the civic reception a significant gathering ahead of the National Executive Council Meeting.
CM Majhi Welcomes Delegates from Across the Nation
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi welcomed student representatives and youth leaders from across the country who had assembled in Bhubaneswar for the National Executive Council Meeting of ABVP.
Describing Bhubaneswar as the temple city of Odisha and the sacred land of Bhagwan Jagannath, art, culture, and Vedic tradition, Majhi said the city was an ideal venue for a national gathering focused on youth leadership and social transformation.
He said ABVP has consistently worked towards student welfare, national interest, and social awareness by following its guiding principles of “Knowledge, Character and Unity.”
“Today’s youth must aspire not merely to become job seekers, but job creators. Entrepreneurship, innovation, and youth leadership will play a crucial role in the making of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” the Chief Minister said.
Focus on Character Building and Social Responsibility
The Chief Minister praised ABVP for initiating campaigns that encourage youth participation in nation-building activities beyond academics and career aspirations.
He highlighted the organisation’s ‘Screen Time to Activity Time’ campaign, stating that it is inspiring students towards social service, environmental awareness, sports, and constructive engagement in society.

He also appreciated the ‘Mission Sahasi’ initiative, which focuses on building self-confidence and self-defence awareness among girl students.“Through its continuous efforts, ABVP has proven that ‘Students’ Power is Nation’s Power’,” Majhi remarked.
He further stated that since its establishment in 1949, ABVP has not only produced student leaders but has also contributed towards creating nationalist leadership and responsible citizens committed to the nation.
“From the Emergency to issues related to national security and social transformation, ABVP has remained at the forefront of national movements,” he added.
Expressing confidence in the deliberations of the upcoming National Executive Council Meeting, Majhi said the discussions and decisions taken during the event would contribute positively towards the nation and society under the blessings of Mahaprabhu Jagannath.
ABVP Calls for Nationalist Youth Leadership
Speaking on the occasion, ABVP National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki said that the National Executive Council Meeting being organised in Bhubaneswar was an important gathering that would provide new direction to national interest, student welfare, and cultural consciousness.
He described Bhubaneswar as the sacred land of Mahaprabhu Jagannath and Baba Lingaraj and said the spiritual and cultural environment of Odisha adds significance to the national event.

“In the present atmosphere of global instability and changing national circumstances, Bharat must emerge as a balanced global leader. For this, the youth and students of the nation must come forward with a spirit of nationalism and social commitment,” Dr Solanki said.
He stated that ABVP has consistently raised issues related to illegal Bangladeshi infiltration, changing demography, and threats to democratic values in the country.
According to him, the organisation’s ideological and social campaigns have contributed towards strengthening democratic values and national consciousness among youth across India.
Campaigns Addressing Mental Health and Screen Addiction
Dr Solanki also drew attention to the growing challenges of mental stress and excessive screen time among students and youth.
He said campaigns such as ‘Anandmay Sarthak Chhatra Jeevan’ and ‘Screen Time to Activity Time’ are encouraging students to adopt a healthy, positive, and balanced lifestyle.
“These campaigns are helping reconnect Gen-Z with Bharatiya consciousness, social values, and the spirit of nation-building,” he added.
Highlighting various ABVP initiatives, he said programmes such as Mission Sahasi, Chhatra Sansad, Think India, Medivision, Agrivision, and Pharma Vision are focused on leadership development, character building, policy engagement, and nurturing nationalist personalities among students.
He expressed confidence that the National Executive Council Meeting in Bhubaneswar would provide fresh direction and renewed energy to the organisation’s future activities.
Maharaja Kharavela Exhibition Draws Attention
As part of the celebrations and preparations for the National Executive Council Meeting, a grand exhibition titled ‘Maharaja Kharavela Exhibition’ was organised within the auditorium premises of the venue.
The exhibition showcased Odisha’s glorious historical legacy, folk traditions, educational heritage, and the year-round activities undertaken by ABVP across the country.
Prepared by 30 students through nearly 120 hours of dedicated effort, the exhibition reflected both the cultural richness of Odisha and the organisational journey of ABVP.
Exhibition Highlights Odisha’s Heritage and ABVP Activities
Ahead of the National Executive Council Meeting, the exhibition was formally inaugurated at the ground floor auditorium of the programme venue.n
The inauguration took place in the presence of Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krishna Chandra Mahapatra, Rama Devi Women’s University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jyotsna K.B. Rout, ABVP National President Prof. Raghuraj Kishore Tiwari, National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, and National Organising Secretary Ashish Chauhan.
The exhibition beautifully presented Odisha’s rich historical and cultural heritage, including the spiritual significance of Lord Jagannath, traditional festivals, folk arts, handicrafts, and the famous Konark Wheel of the Sun Temple.

The Konark Wheel was showcased as a symbol of Odisha’s architectural brilliance, scientific temperament, and civilisational heritage.
The exhibition also highlighted ABVP’s service activities, student movements, awareness campaigns, and organisational initiatives conducted across the country throughout the year.
Ratnagiri-Inspired Entrance Reflects Odisha’s Educational Legacy
One of the key attractions of the exhibition was its entrance gate, which was designed in the architectural style of the ancient Ratnagiri University.
The design symbolised Odisha’s historic legacy of education, knowledge, and intellectual excellence. Visitors appreciated the effort to blend Odisha’s ancient educational heritage with contemporary youth movements and student engagement.

The exhibition served as both a cultural showcase and an organisational presentation, reflecting the blend of heritage, nationalism, and youth participation that ABVP seeks to promote.
The ABVP National Executive Council Meeting will be held in Bhubaneswar from May 29 to 31.
A total of 484 worker representatives from different states across the country are expected to participate in the three-day meeting, where discussions on student welfare, educational reforms, national issues, and organisational strategies are likely to take place.
