Bhagyanagar: Tripura Governor N. Indrasena Reddy called upon society to remain alert against elements seeking to promote anarchy, recalling the sacrifices of students, Sangh Swayamsevaks and civilians who stood against Naxal violence and extremist ideology in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
He was speaking at ‘Aahuti – The Struggle Against Nation Splitters’, organised by the Samachara Bharati Cultural Association (SBCA), Bhagyanagar, on August 23. Dr Gopal Reddy, president of SBCA, presided over the programme. RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar was also present and addressed the gathering.
Former ABVP student leaders, activists and others who were associated with the campus struggle and witnessed the violence and sacrifices of that period participated in the programme.
Indrasena Reddy recalls campus struggle
The Governor Indrasena Reddy recalled the growth of the ABVP in Andhra Pradesh during the late 1960s and said students who became active in the organisation faced sustained opposition from Naxal elements. Several students and activists were attacked or killed because of their association with the ABVP and their opposition to extremist ideology, he said.
He said the struggle was not merely a series of campus clashes but an ideological battle in which committed students stood against violence and intimidation.
Recalling his own experience, Indrasena Reddy said he too was attacked on the campus and sustained a serious injury. Timely medical assistance saved his life, he said, adding that he sometimes wondered whether his photograph could also have appeared among those of the martyrs had he not received treatment.
Indrasena Reddy paid tribute to families who lost their sons and to activists who suffered permanent injuries in the violence. Thousands of students and karyakartas remained committed despite the risks, and their sacrifices enabled the movement to continue, he said.
He said the sacrifices should be remembered by the present generation, particularly because the struggle took place when extremism was growing. The Hyderabad seen today, he said, would not have been possible without those who stood against extremist forces and made sacrifices.
Call for vigilance
Referring to the present situation, the Governor cautioned society to remain alert to elements that may seek to exploit young people and promote anarchy. He said vigilance was particularly necessary when ideological forces attempt to operate through organisations or influence sections of the younger generation.
He further warned that hostile forces could support such elements with the objective of weakening Bharat and referred to threats posed by networks such as the ISI and Al-Qaeda. He stressed the need for society to remain vigilant against attempts to create internal divisions and destabilise the country.
Indrasena Reddy also said the ideological battle against Maoism had reached an ending stage. Many Maoists had surrendered and returned to the mainstream, which, he said, showed the failure of Maoist ideology and the loss of appeal of the path of violence.
Struggle was not merely political
RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar said the struggle documented in the books should not be viewed merely as a political confrontation between the BJP and the Left, the Sangh and the Left, or as a Hindu-Muslim conflict.
He said the opposition arose because extremist activities began threatening the country’s unity, integrity and security, as well as its traditions, identity and cultural existence.
Ambekar said the struggle was also about creating national consciousness among students. The message was ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, along with encouraging students to respect the country’s great personalities, traditions and heritage.
He said the issue gradually moved beyond university campuses as society began to understand that it was not merely a struggle involving students but a wider social and national challenge.
Ambekar said the sacrifices documented in the books should be communicated to the present generation so that young people understand the circumstances in which students, Swayamsevaks and social activists stood against extremist violence.
Three books released
The three books were released by N. Indrasena Reddy and Sunil Ambekar during the programme.
‘Saffron Sacrifice’ and its Telugu translation, ‘Aahuti’, document the sacrifices of Sangh Swayamsevaks who stood against Naxalites and Jihadi forces seeking to split the nation, particularly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The third book, ‘Humanity Beyond Fear’, documents the role played by Sangh Swayamsevaks in protecting Sikhs during the violence of 1984 and 1985, following the assassination of former Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi.
The event brought together former ABVP student leaders and activists associated with the campus struggle to remember those who faced attacks, made sacrifices and continued their work during a period of intense Naxal influence.
The organisers said the documentation was intended to preserve the experiences and sacrifices of that generation and present them to contemporary society, particularly younger people, so that the history of the struggle is not forgotten. These books are available at
