In Puducherry, a voter turnout of 90.47 per cent was recorded on April 9 for the Assembly elections. As per the final figures released by the Election Commission, it is the highest ever recorded polling percentage in the Union Territory and since the first Assembly election held in 1964.
In the three regions of Puducherry, Mahe and Yanam, people stood in long queues and voted enthusiastically.
A total of 90.47% votes were recorded in Puducherry. Among these, the highest was recorded in Oussudu constituency with 94.39% votes, and the lowest was recorded in Mahe constituency with 77.41% votes.

Further, 10,749 postal votes have also been recorded. Therefore, combining the votes recorded in voting machines and postal ballots, a total of 7,29,172 votes have been recorded. This constitutes 91.83% of the total number of voters in Puducherry.
Nearly 13 thousand voters, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and government personnel engaged in elections and essential services, exercised their franchise through postal ballots.
All machines used in the polling have been sealed in the presence of polling agents and will kept locked and sealed in the strong room of the respective Assembly constituencies in the presence of candidates and their agents. All these will remain under the surveillance of armed Central security forces until the counting day, May 4.

As per the EC, during this period, candidates and their agents may inspect and ensure the safety of the voting machines.
According to Puducherry Chief Electoral Officer P Jawahar, nine government servants have been suspended for taking part in political activities and disciplinary action has been initiated against another nine government servants for their involvement in political activities.
So far, he said, the EC has seized Rs. 8.4 crore worth of gold valuables, liquor and freebies, besides cash, used to lure voters. A delegation of nine officials from Kyrgyzstan, Ivory Coast, Moldova, Mongolia, Guyana and Bhutan has come to Puducherry to observe the polling process at select booths.
Officials said, “Election machinery has launched the Meipporul 2.0 application to curb fake news and misinformation. It has removed 113 misleading social media posts by the Cybersecurity department and has resolved 76 out of 84 complaints within the 100-minute deadline via the C-Vigil app.”
The EC said, “This year there are 1,099 polling stations. There are 5 SC seats and none for ST candidates. There are 294 candidates in the fray for 30 seats (plus 3 nominated by the Centre). Political parties have fielded 40 women in this election. Out of 9.5 lakh total voters, 5 lakh are women voters and 140 are third gender voters.”
After SIR, about 8 per cent of voters were deleted from the electoral rolls in 2026.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC), and the INDIA bloc comprising Congress, DMK and the VCK are the two principal alliances in the race, and the entry of actor-politician Vijay-led TVK has created significant expectations.
Some poll pundits say TVK would be a spoiler in the game. Surveys predict a second consecutive term for the NDA-led AINRC. Actor-director Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) has fielded candidates in all constituencies.
