A disturbing case involving identity concealment, exploitation, and blackmail has emerged from Gwalior, sparking outrage, and the case is being widely referred to as a “Love Jihad” incident by locals and activists.

The accused, Sameer Khan, has been arrested by the Madhoganj Police Station after a Hindu widow lodged a complaint accusing him of hiding his identity to establish a relationship and later harassing her.

According to police officer Manish Yadav, the victim had been married for around nine years before losing her husband to illness three years ago. Since then, she had been residing with her children at her parental home. During this period, she met a man who introduced himself as “Ravi Thakur” and claimed to be from a Hindu family.

Over time, the accused allegedly gained her trust and developed a close relationship. The woman stated that he repeatedly promised to marry her, which led to physical relations between them.

However, the situation took a shocking turn when she discovered, through a neighbour, that his real name was Sameer Khan and that he had been concealing his identity from the beginning.

After learning the truth, the woman immediately decided to end the relationship. According to her complaint, this is when the accused’s behaviour turned aggressive. She alleged that Sameer Khan began pressuring her to convert her religion and continue the relationship.

When she refused, he allegedly issued threats, warning of harm to her child and sister. The victim further claimed that the accused had secretly recorded objectionable photos and videos during their relationship.

These were later shared on social media platforms in an attempt to defame and intimidate her.

Traumatised and fearing for her safety, the woman approached the police along with her sister and filed a formal complaint. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and swiftly arrested the accused.

Officials stated that further investigation is ongoing, including scrutiny of digital evidence and verification of the allegations related to online circulation of private content.

Police have assured that strict action will be taken based on evidence and legal provisions.

The case has triggered strong reactions locally, with demands for stringent action and a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
