In a disturbing case from Hyderabad, a woman has accused her husband, identified as Nawaz (also known as Navadurga), of luring her into marriage through deception.

According to her statement to ANI, the accused initially approached her in May 2021 to rent a shop and allegedly claimed that he had converted to Hinduism to gain her trust. The two eventually got married on July 28 last year.

However, she alleged that soon after the marriage, she was forced to convert to Islam and her name was changed to Nazeera.

Allegations of sexual assault and blackmail

The complainant further alleged that prior to their marriage, Nawaz took her to a resort under the pretext of introducing her to his family, where she was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted while unconscious.

She claimed that the accused later admitted to the act and used private photos to blackmail her into marriage. The woman alleged that this marked the beginning of a prolonged cycle of coercion and abuse.

Claims of financial fraud and exploitation

The woman has accused her husband and in-laws of financial exploitation, alleging that they extorted nearly Rs 16.7 lakh, took loans in her name, misused her credit cards, and even sold her land without consent.

She estimated her total financial loss to be between Rs 25-30 lakh, along with significant quantities of gold.

Forced conversion, violence and coercion alleged

Detailing her ordeal, the woman alleged repeated physical violence, threats to her family, and coercive practices. She claimed she was forced to consume beef despite being a vegetarian and was compelled to undergo an abortion.

She also alleged that an Imam was brought to their home in August, where she was made to recite religious verses as part of a forced conversion process. According to her, she was frequently drugged, assaulted, and prevented from practising her faith.

Police inaction alleged

The complainant has accused local police of failing to act on her complaints. She stated that despite approaching authorities in January, only a “missing person” case was registered.

She further alleged that the accused wields influence, which has hindered proper investigation and delayed justice.

Authorities are yet to issue a detailed response, and further developments are awaited as the matter gains attention.
