Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a massive election rally in Kerala on April 4, projected a decisive political shift in the state, asserting that the days of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government are numbered and that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is poised to form its first government in Kerala.
Framing the BJP as the only credible alternative, the Prime Minister claimed that both the LDF and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) have failed the state over decades of misrule, corruption, and underdevelopment. He alleged that despite their public rivalry, the two fronts function as a “secret alliance” and are united in opposing the BJP.
PM started his speech by calling out loudly “Jai Keralam” and “Jai Viksit Keralam”. He then addressed the ocean of an enthusiastic crowd comprising thousands upon thousands. He began in Malayalam, meaning: “My dear brothers and sisters of Keralam, my namaskaram to all. My pranams at the holy feet of Bhagavan Vallabhan (deity of Sree Vallabha Temple in Tiruvalla). Pranams to Sree Sabarimala Ayyappa.”
He then saluted a small girl who waved a picture of him drawn by her, and a gentleman who waved a picture of his (the PM’s) mother drawn by him. The Prime Minister then called all eleven candidates from the neighbouring constituencies to the front row of the dais and stood at the centre. He held the hands of Anoop Antony and Kummanam Rajasekharan, and all raised their hands in unison.
The PM continued his speech: God has given Keralam unlimited resources. Vast seashores and rich ‘blue wealth’ are remarkable. There is a rich scope for industries and tourism. Both the LDF and the UDF, when in power, do not pay attention to development. Village roads are poor. There are no good bridges. In Kottayam, the Medical College Hospital is in poor condition. He was referring to the mishap that took place there a few months earlier, when a woman died as the building collapsed. Basic infrastructure is lacking. He wondered how the state’s standard of living can improve under these circumstances. So far, no BJP government has ruled here. Still, the Centre gives all help for development.
The Centre gave five times more than what the Congress government gave to the state. We will extend all sorts of assistance to the state. Houses under the PM Awas Yojana are one among them. Villages receive water under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Crores of rupees reach farmers directly through the Kisan Samman scheme (Total disbursed: over Rs 4.27 lakh crore to over 9.32 crore beneficiaries). Rubber farmers are also receiving support.
PM said that seven Christian-majority states in the North East are ruled by BJP. Goa, a Christian-majority state, is under BJP rule. They are all on the path of development. What they are witnessing now did not happen during the last 50 years. Keralam will also come under BJP rule. Then the problems faced by the people, including labourers and fishermen, will be solved.
Modi said that infrastructure development is taking place in Keralam. The BJP government materialised railway development. The Vande Bharat train runs through Kottayam. The Sabarimala railway will take pilgrims directly to the Sabarimala shrine. Then businessmen will get more opportunities. Youth will get job opportunities. But the Kerala government does not take interest. Now, Kerala will move towards development. A double-engine government can solve the problems the state faces. This is Modi’s guarantee. Industries will come.
Mothers, sisters, and girls are the ones benefiting from the NDA rule. Several issues faced by women have been solved, and several others are being addressed. Toilets are provided. Houses are given under PM Awas Yojana. The majority of Mudra Yojana beneficiaries are women. Crores of rupees are invested by them with the help of the Mudra Yojana.
PM asserted that a double-engine government will come to Keralam. Mothers, sisters and girls will be taken care of. The government plans to provide a free cancer vaccine to girls above 14.
The Prime Minister said that his government has received Parliament’s approval for 33% reservation for women. It will be implemented in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. The Budget session has been extended by three more days to discuss the number of members under reservation. There is fake propaganda by Congress and the Left that since the population in Kerala and Tamil Nadu has declined, the number of MPs would be reduced. We have invited all parties to discuss this.

Then the PM spoke about youth migrating to other states and abroad. He said industries should grow. Corruption and communalism are the hurdles. They should be eliminated to save the youth. The remittances from youth working abroad enter our banks and contribute to the growth of the banking sector.
Then the PM referred to the conflicts in West Asia. The whole world knows what is going on. Still, Congress issues statements that will jeopardise the interests of our people living in Gulf countries. They are provoking those countries to expel our people. The PM said he guarantees the safety and security of our people. Congress criticises Modi and risks the lives of about one crore people living there. I am conscious about the safety and security of our people. Our people are not alone. The Government of Bharat supports them.
Then Modi referred to the propaganda of LDF that UDF is BJP’s B-Team and UDF’s criticism that LDF is BJP’s B-Team. They agree that BJP is the A-Team. They both join hands to oppose BJP under a secret pact. In Tamil Nadu and several other states, they fight elections as a single front. In Kerala, the pact is secret; in other places, it is public.
Both fronts encourage fissiparous and divisive forces. They join hands for vote banks. But patriotic Keralamites will not join them. We have seen this in the Munambam issue.
PM said our culture and faith suffer when both LDF and UDF join hands with extremist forces. The Sabarimala gold loot took place under LDF rule, but UDF also had a role in it. UDF does not have any respect for temples. If NDA comes to power, both will be punished. They will not survive the wrath of the devotees.
Both LDF and UDF are habitual liars. Insulting the country is their habit. They oppose Kerala Story, Dhurandhar, FCRA and the Uniform Civil Code. Kerala will be developed if BJP comes to power.
Then the PM extended Easter and Vishu greetings to the people of Kerala.
Calling this election a milestone, he spoke about Anoop Antony, the NDA candidate from Tiruvalla: “Anoop has been working for me for the last five years with utmost dedication. Anoop has been working round the clock, across the country, as my trusted and dedicated lieutenant. I know his strength. Now, I am assigning his services to Keralam.” The Prime Minister said that Tiruvalla will henceforth be the epicentre of development. He added that the trust of Tiruvalla’s people is his strength.
Before leaving the dais, the PM apologised to the gathering for his inability to speak in Malayalam, a beautiful language. Still, no one left while he was speaking in Hindi. Even people from villages remained there. He viewed it as the love and blessings of the people of Keralam. He considered it his good fortune. He prayed for the state’s development. He concluded his speech, as usual, by calling out loudly “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”. The entire crowd repeated it in a thundering voice.
Kummanam Rajasekharan (BJP/NDA candidate of Aranmula), BJP State General Secretary Adv. S. Suresh, NDA Vice Chairman AN Radhakrishnan, BJP National Secretary Anil Antony, and BJP workers and candidates from Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts were on the dais.
Earlier, BJP leader and former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan welcomed the gathering. He said Kerala is in a debt trap. The only ray of hope is our PM, who upholds idealistic politics. Communalism and terrorism should be eliminated. In Kerala, both the UDF and the LDF avoid discussing development. They are diverting people’s attention from Viksit Keralam.
Before speech, the PM called all eleven candidates from the neighbouring constituencies to the front row of the dais and stood at the centre. He then held the hands of Anoop Antony and Kummanam Rajasekharan, and all raised their hands in unison.
He said that such a large crowd in Tiruvalla proves people’s confidence in the BJP. He added that, even though no roadshow was planned, a large number of people lined the roadside to greet him. The PM said that this time the scenario is different from the past and that it marks a significant change: the fall of the LDF (CPM-led ruling Left Democratic Front) is certain, and NDA rule is imminent.
The PM also referred to his interaction with booth-level BJP workers of Keralam a couple of days ago. It was an audio interaction. He spoke to about 1.5 lakh workers. He said he could feel their enthusiasm and is confident that they will give a ‘farewell’ to the LDF.
