India’s encounter against the illicit motives of Pakistan is a consistent and continuous conflict. The Pakistan challenge to India operates at multiple horizons beyond the territorial or cross-border domain. One such constant threat that New Delhi has to be extremely vigilant and constantly counter is the fake propaganda machine run by Islamabad. The information warfare against Pakistan is the most challenging domain for India, in an era of Artificial Intelligence(AI) and other technological tools that aids to generate deep fakes and other manipulated content. Apparently, Islamabad is an expert in mining such manipulated videos and running fake propaganda machines to misguide the world and fulfill its illicit motives.

Fabricated Video of EAM Jaishankar

The fake propaganda machine of Pakistan is a never ending story. In the latest manipulation, Pakistan social media pages are circulating deepfake videos by altering the recent Parliament speech of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. The video allegedly says that India would not tolerate Muslim countries harassing Israel. The video also states that Israel recently granted USD 3 billion to Afghanistan at the request of the Taliban government.

Apparently, EAM Jaishankar didn’t mention any such statements in his latest Parliament speech. All that the Minister stressed on was restraint in the conflict, peace, stability and the safety of the civilians. EAM Jaishankar also emphasized on the national security priorities such as India’s energy interests, secured and uninterrupted trade flows. However, the Minister did not mention any aspect related to Muslim countries. Thus, the fake propaganda of Pakistan is a constant threat to India that has to be countered. India thus responsibly thrives to thwart the false propaganda machine of Islamabad and strives to keep the citizens aware, informed and vigilant.

Fake allegations on assistance to Israel to blow up IRIS Dena

As Islamabad is ill-equipped to win a war on the battle ground it channelizes these fake paths to nourish its illicit agenda. In one such latest scenario, the Pakistani propaganda based social media platforms, depicts the AI generated deepfake video of the Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. In the video apparently, the Army Chief acknowledges that New Delhi rendered intelligence assistance and key information access to the United States regarding the movement of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Dena. These critical inputs from India, aided the US to blow up the Iranian vessel in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Sri Lanka, the deepfake video of the Indian Army Chief claims.

In the deepfake video, the Army Chief says that India being a strategic ally of Israel, it was its duty to inform Israel about the exact location of the Iranian vessel when it was sailing in the international waters. Such information exchange was indeed mandatory as a part of the latest deal signed between New Delhi and Tel Aviv, the Pakistan-based deep fake video further claims in the voice of the Indian Army Chief. However, the PIB, the fact check unit of the Government of India, has outrightly debunked the video as fabricated and has exposed the false propaganda machine run by Pakistan against India.

🚨 Deepfake Video Alert

“Deepfake Video Alert: Pakistani propaganda accounts are sharing a digitally manipulated video of the Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, making false claims that when the Iranian ship crossed the international waters, as Israeli strategic allies, it was our duty to inform Israel about their exact location as a part of our newer strategic deal. Beware! This is an AI-generated deepfake video shared to mislead the public. General Upendra Dwivedi has made NO such statement”, PIB issued a statement.

Fake posts claiming the identity of Indian Navy

Apparently, the original video pertaining to the Chief of the Indian Army, is a speech at the Raisina Dialogue where he spoke about how India should monitor the regional developments while maintaining strategic neutrality. The AI generated video can be clearly testified as fake, as there is mismatch of lip syncing, vague sentence formation and unnatural phrasing.

Yet in another statement, PIB and the Indian Defence Forces have thwarted another fabricated post by the fake Pakistani propaganda social media pages that claims to be the account of Indian Naval personnel. The social media account claims that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Vice Chief of Navy Sanjay Vatsayan assisted in the attack on the Iranian vessel IRIS Dena. Accordingly, the Chief of the Indian Navy Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi was preparing to resign from the post, the Propaganda pages of Pakistan further claims.

The PIB dismissed these statements as “fake” and asserted it is a disinformation campaign by Pakistan targeting India to defame the country. “Pakistani propaganda accounts are spreading false claims that, on the orders of India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Vice Chief of Navy Sanjay Vatsayan assisted in an attack on an Iranian ship and that Naval Chief Dinesh Kumar Tripathi is preparing to resign,” PIB Fact Check said. Thus, the PIB and the defence sources urged citizens to be vigilant of fake channels and asked them to rely on official government sources for credible information.
