Embrace national values, end child marriage, love and land jihad — There is no enmity: Assam CM Sarma to Miya-Muslims

Speaking to reporters at the BJP office in Guwahati, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said individuals who identify with nationalist ideals and express respect for symbols such as “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” are welcome to join the party. Sarma also called for the end of practices and issues he associated with community tensions, including child marriage, polygamy, alleged land encroachment and what he termed “jihadi politics,” framing these as necessary steps for greater social harmony

GUWAHATI: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma sets multi points condition for Miya-Muslims in the state. “We don’t have any enmity with the Miya-Muslims, but they should follow certain conditions”, CM Sarma said. Speaking to  reporters in the BJP office in Guwahati CM Sarma said that if someone is nationalist or someone sings the “Vande Mataram” we don’t have any issue. Bharatiya Janata Party doesn’t have any enmity with Miya-Muslims if they are willing to adopt the national values. Besides that the CM said that the Miya-Muslim society has to accept some conditions to end the conflict. Outlining the party’s strategy for the minority dominated seats, the CM said, “they have to end Love Jihad, land encroachment or Land Jihad, Fertiliser Jihad.”

Setting conditions for the Muslim candidates who want to contest in BJP’s ticket, CM said that anyone who is nationalist, says Bharat Mata Ki Jay or sings Vande Mataram can come and join us. “But the Miya-Muslim society must end Child Marriage, Polygamy and Jihadi politics and we don’t consider them as adversary.”

Three Congress MLA joins BJP

Just ahead of the assembly election slated for the next month, three Congress MLA joined the ruling BJP on March 5. North Karimganj MLA Kamalakshya Dey Purkayastha, Raha MLA Sashi Das and Mongoloid MLA Basanta Das joined BJP in Guwahati in presence of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and state president Dilip Saikia. The joining is crucial for the ruling party for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election on March 16.

Out of three seats for the Rajya Sabha BJP fielded minister Jogen Mohan and MLA Teras Gowala and for the third seat the NDA alliance party UPPL chief Pramod Bodo has filed the nomination. With the joining of the three Congress MLAs, the three candidates of the ruling NDA would win the Rajya Sabha election without much resistance from the opposition.

Meanwhile CM Sarma said that BJP has finalised the seat sharing with alliance partner AGP, BPF,UPPL and Rabha Sangram Samitee. “The seat sharing with the alliance partners is finalised and we will announce it once it is cleared by the parliamentary board in the next 2-3 days.”  As elections are nearing in the state, the BJP and its alliance partners are taking every possible step to repeat its winning track in Assam. BJP is confident that with outstanding development works, establishment of peace and corruption free good governance, the party will be able to perform a hat-trick of wins in the coming assembly election.
