Bharuch: In a significant development on February 27, the BJP-led Gujarat government demolished an allegedly illegal dargah constructed on grazing land in Gowali village of Bharuch district.

According to reports, the shrine had been built on Gauchar land bearing survey numbers 1456 and 1457. Villagers raised the issue with the local administration, citing encroachment on land meant for cattle grazing.

Notices issued before demolition

Sources indicate that the authorities had earlier issued a notice to those managing the shrine, directing them to remove the unauthorised structure voluntarily. However, after no compliance, the administration proceeded with the demolition.

Acting on the complaints, officials cleared the encroachment and demolished the structure using a bulldozer in the presence of the Bharuch district police.

Tight security, land reclaimed peacefully

Prior to the demolition, the administration put in place stringent security measures to avert any untoward incident. A heavy police presence was ensured at the site, with senior officials overseeing the bulldozer operation.

The drive was carried out without any disturbance, and the encroached grazing land was successfully reclaimed. Official records show that the plot on which the dargah stood was designated as Gauchar land. With this action, the BJP-led state government reiterated its stance that illegal religious structures will not be allowed on government or grazing land.
