The Yogi Adityanath government has approved the upgradation of Swami Shukdevanand College into a university and announced a new Ram Prasad Bismil Medical College in Shahjahanpur, giving a major boost to higher education and medical infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. To strengthen the higher education and healthcare infrastructure, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government approved the upgradation of the historic Swami Shukdevanand College into a full-fledged university. Alongside, the state also announced the establishment of a new medical college named after the legendary freedom fighter Ram Prasad Bismil in Shahjahanpur, the birthplace of the revolutionary hero. The decision is another milestone in the Yogi government’s nine-year development journey, especially in the education and health sectors. The upgrade of Swami Shukdevanand College, an institution with a rich legacy of academic excellence into a university is expected to provide advanced educational opportunities to thousands of students in the region.

Officials said that once upgraded, the university will introduce a variety of modern academic programs, research initiatives, and community-oriented courses. This will also bring Shahjahanpur on the map of Uttar Pradesh’s growing university network, and will make higher education more accessible and employment-oriented.

The upcoming Ram Prasad Bismil Medical College will further enhance healthcare facilities in the district. The 100-bed hospital attached to the medical college is already operational, ensuring healthcare access to rural and urban populations alike. With the medical college’s full-fledged functioning, Shahjahanpur will witness an improvement in medical education, healthcare delivery, and local employment opportunities for doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers.

District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh stated that the administration is paying special attention to law and order as well as public welfare. “Special attention is being given to law and order. During public hearings, victims receive immediate assistance. The district administration remains in action mode round the clock,” he said, emphasising the district’s commitment to transparency and citizen-centric governance. Officials noted that the district’s efforts in grievance redressal, women empowerment, and skill development are being closely monitored to ensure effective implementation.

Apart from educational and healthcare advancements, Shahjahanpur has witnessed economic revival through the promotion of traditional crafts. Under the One District One Product (ODOP) Scheme, the district’s iconic zari-zardozi craft has gained new recognition in both domestic and international markets. The ODOP initiative has led to a surge in production and exports, with Shahjahanpur’s intricate zari-zardozi products finding buyers in markets such as Dubai and Saudi Arabia. The scheme has improved the livelihood of artisans, with many reporting higher monthly incomes and new employment avenues. Women entrepreneurs have particularly benefited from skill training and digital marketing support provided under the program.

Over the past nine years, Shahjahanpur has evolved into a district that balances traditional heritage with modern growth. The upgradation of Swami Shukdevanand College into a university is expected to attract academic collaborations and research projects, while the medical college named after Ram Prasad Bismil pays tribute to the city’s revolutionary past.

The district administration’s continuous efforts toward maintaining law and order, improving healthcare, and promoting artisan welfare demonstrate a comprehensive development model. From ensuring quick grievance redressal to providing employment and education, Shahjahanpur’s transformation reflects the state’s ongoing focus on inclusive governance.

The dual announcement related to the Swami Shukdevanand University and Ram Prasad Bismil Medical College shows the Yogi government’s dedication to holistic growth in Uttar Pradesh. It bridges the past and present by honouring freedom fighters while advancing the future through education and healthcare.
