A disturbing case of repeated rape, video blackmail, extortion, and alleged forced religious conversion involving a teen schoolgirl in Class 11 has gripped Bhopal, with new revelations from one of the accused shocking investigators and leading to multiple arrests and evidence seizures.

The victim, a student at a prestigious school in the Shahpura area, first came into contact with the main accused, Osaf Ali Khan (19), through a mutual friend. Osaf frequently visited near the school to meet the friend and gradually befriended the girl.

The crimes allegedly began in July last year (with some reports citing May-June timeframe) when Osaf lured her on the pretext of a drive around Bhopal. He took her to an isolated area in Khanugaon, where he raped her inside a Mahindra Thar SUV. The assault was premeditated: accomplice Maaz Khan (also referred to as Maj Khan, 21-23, a 365 gym operator), hid outside the vehicle, peeked through the glass, and secretly recorded an obscene video on his iPhone.

Maaz later confessed during police questioning: “I had planned it beforehand. I peeked through the glass and secretly shot the video. Later, we shared this video among ourselves and repeatedly forced the girl to have relations.”

Using the video, the duo blackmailed the terrified teen, initially demanding Rs 1 lakh and threatening to make it viral. She managed to pay Rs 40,000 out of fear of social stigma and defamation. Despite the payment, the harassment continued, with pressure for repeated sexual encounters.

When the victim blocked Osaf on social media and phone, he persisted by calling from different numbers and allegedly showed the private video to her friends, intensifying her trauma.

The accused also pressured her to convert her religion, promising marriage and coercing her to recite religious prayers (including the Kalma and perform namaz) multiple times under duress.

Fed up, the teen confided in her cousin brother and received support from members of a Hindu organisation. With their assistance, she filed a complaint at the Kohefiza police station on February 2, 2026.

Police registered an FIR under sections of the Indian Penal Code (including rape, extortion, criminal intimidation), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Freedom of Religion Act, and relevant IT Act provisions.

Osaf Ali Khan was arrested on February 3 and remanded to judicial custody after being sent to jail. During his court appearance that day, he was reportedly thrashed by lawyers and onlookers inside the court premises before police intervened.

Maaz Khan was arrested on February 8 and placed on police remand until February 13. During interrogation, he revealed the use of four vehicles in the assaults at different times and locations: the black glass Thar (used initially in Khanugaon), Maruti Ciaz, Swift, and Honda City.

Police recovered the Thar from a village in Sehore district, where Maaz had hidden it. Based on his identification, the other three cars were seized.

Maaz claimed the iPhone used for recording was broken and discarded by him in a jungle in Rajasthan during a visit to Ajmer for ziyarat at the Khwaja Garib Nawaz dargah, after learning his name surfaced in the case. Police remain unconvinced and continue searching for the device.

Authorities are also hunting for two other close associates of Maaz, who have evaded summons for questioning and are suspected of suspicious involvement. No other victims have come forward yet, but police have assured action on any future complaints.

Maaz’s elder brother, Monis, is reportedly out on bail in separate MD (MDMA/ecstasy) drug trafficking cases and has alleged links to the Yasin Machli gang, involved in drug trafficking, love jihad allegations, and land grabbing.

A four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to thoroughly probe the case, including potential wider patterns, other possible victims, and all aspects of the crimes.

The incident has sparked widespread public outrage and condemnation in Bhopal, highlighting concerns over crimes against minors, blackmail via explicit videos, and coercive religious conversion attempts. Police have vowed a comprehensive investigation to deliver justice to the victim.
