Guwahati: Assam police SIT investigation found that Jorhat MP and deputy Leader of Opposition Congress party Gaurav Gogoi and his British wife Elizabeth Coulbern have serious links with the Pakistan government and their agencies. Addressing a press conference in Dispur, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan in 2013 at the invitation of the country’s Interior Ministry before he became a Member of Parliament and when his father was Assam’s Chief Minister. Gaurav Gogoi stayed 10 days in Pakistan and his visit to Pakistan with his British wife was never disclosed.

Interestingly, Gogoi and his wife entered Pakistan through the Attari border, and his visa was initially limited to Lahore. But after entering Pakistan, Gaurav Gogoi was allowed by the Pakistan Interior Ministry, by a special letter, to visit Islamabad and Karachi. When Gaurav Gogoi became MP in 2014, the Congress leader asked many sensitive questions on India’s security, military, and nuclear installations. CM Sarma said, Gaurav Gogoi asked questions on Indian military hardware, weapons, vital installations, nuclear plants, water policy, western front war preparedness, Air Force installation, uranium plants etc. He also asked a question about whether the Indian government is spying on the Pakistani High Commissioner’s office in New Delhi or not? CM Sarma questioned why Gaurav Gogoi has not made it public what he was doing in Pakistan for 10 days and why he was digitally silent during his stay in Pakistan?

CM Sarma also said that Gaurav Gogoi surrendered his son’s Indian passport in 2022 and opted for a British passport like his wife and daughter. The CM also mentioned that Gaurav Gogoi changed his children’s religion to Christianity during the change of their passports.

Gaurav Gogoi’s British wife is a Pakistani spy

Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Coulbern, has a long and serious link with Pakistani authorities. The Assam police SIT investigation found that Elizabeth was an employee of LEAD Pakistan, an NGO backed by ISI and managed by Pak national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh. She worked in Islamabad for one year during 2011-12 under Lead Pakistan and was trained by anti-India Pakistani national Ali.Tauqeer Sheikh. In September 2013, she got married to Gaurav Gogoi, and she was transferred to Lead India in 2012. But interestingly, Elizabeth still got Rs. 2.50 lakh of salary from Pakistan while working in India.

As per the Indian FCRA Act, receiving any donation from Pakistan by an Indian NGO is not allowed. But during the UPA government, a special provision was made for LEAD India to receive direct funds from Pakistan. During the period, LEAD India received Rs. 91 lakhs from Pakistan, of which Rs. 82.50 lakhs was paid to Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Coulbern, as her salary. Her contract agreement with LEAD India also mentioned that even though she was working in India, she would be controlled and managed by Pakistani authorities and a close aide of ISI, Ali Tauqeer Sheikh.

Interestingly, Elizabeth Coulbern sent many sensitive documents and reports from India to her Pakistani handlers. In one of such 45-page reports to Pakistan, she mentioned that after PM Modi came to power, it is not possible for LEAD India to get approvals from the Indian government. In her report, she quoted IB’s secret reports on the Modi government’s policy changes. She also mentioned in her report that LEAD India/Pakistan should bypass the Indian government and directly work with sub-regional governments. CM Sarma, in his press meet, said that Elizabeth Coulbern visited Islamabad 9 times from India after she married a Congress MP. She visited New Delhi 3 times from Islamabad while working in Pakistan. It should be mentioned that during the UPA government, anti-India Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh visited India 13 times along with top Pakistani officials. Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Coulbern, also accompanied Ali Tauqeer during his visit to India.

The Assam government has decided to hand over the case to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for further investigation. CM Sarma said that the Assam government has requested the central government to cancel Elizabeth Coulbern’s visa immediately, as her presence in India is a threat to national security.
