Hyderabad: GHMC BJP corporator Akula Srivani has lodged a formal complaint with the Saroor Nagar SHO, Hyderabad police, on January 20, accusing AIMIM workers of issuing threats and seeking legal action against Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi over what she described as repeated provocative statements that hurt religious sentiments and disturb communal harmony.

In her complaint, the Saroornagar BJP corporator stated that the issue began after she posted a video on social media objecting to the AIMIM election symbol. She said that during a subsequent press interaction, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi made remarks referring to her statement, following which she uploaded a counter video on her official social media platforms.

According to Srivani, after these developments, several individuals identifying themselves as AIMIM party karyakartas and supporters of Asaduddin Owaisi allegedly began calling her repeatedly and issuing threats. She alleged that the callers used abusive and intimidating language, causing fear and mental harassment.

Getting threatening calls from AIMIM workers for questioning Owaisi—shame on such politics.

We are not afraid of such calls.
Democracy cannot be silenced by threats, and intimidation will never stop us from questioning failed and divisive politics. We will continue to speak… pic.twitter.com/CKC27DSqRU

The corporator further complained against Akbaruddin Owaisi for what she termed his repeated “15 minutes” remarks. She pointed out that similar statements were again made recently during local body elections in Maharashtra, which, she alleged, indirectly incite hatred, disturb communal peace, and hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community.

In her representation to the police, Srivani urged the authorities to register a case and take strict legal action to ensure that such statements are not repeated in the future. She also sought identification and action against those issuing threats over phone calls, demanded necessary protection if required, and requested action against hate speech and provocative statements as per law.

Stating that she is ready to cooperate fully with the investigation, the GHMC corporator said she would provide call records, videos, and any other evidence required. She appealed to the police to look into the matter and take action at the earliest.
