What began as a routine administrative exercise the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiated by the Election Commission has now turned into a full-scale political crisis for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), according to senior BJP leaders.
While the TMC leadership accuses the survey of being disruptive and unconstitutional, BJP leaders assert that the SIR has accomplished something the state government never dared to, unmasking decades of unlawful voter padding, infiltration networks, and political patronage embedded deep inside sensitive districts of the state.
It was Amit Malviya, BJP National Information & Technology Department head, who first sounded the alarm. According to Malviya, the SIR has triggered a mass exodus from Krishnaganj in Nadia, a district long alleged by the BJP to be a border infiltration hub.

Amit Malviya alleged that:
- Large numbers of TMC voters have fled to Bangladesh
- Local TMC committee members themselves were allegedly illegal residents
- Entire villages have emptied out overnight
- Residents are refusing to accept SIR forms out of fear
The SIR, he argues, is peeling back layers of electoral manipulation that TMC has depended on for over a decade. “The panic is real. The truth is being exposed, layer by layer,” Malviya wrote.
BJP leaders have alleged the TMC of turning border districts into vote banks built on illegal infiltrators. Amit Malviya argues that the SIR is proving what the Trinamool spent years denying or suppressing.
BJP Bengal President and Union Minister Dr Sukanta Majumdar detonated the political equivalent of a bomb.
Accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being terrified of the SIR, Majumdar says the TMC’s frantic opposition reveals more than it hides. “Mamata Banerjee has been opposing SIR from the beginning. No other state protested like this. Their panic shows what they were protecting.”
Majumdar claims that the SIR has already triggered chaos among infiltrator communities allegedly nurtured by the TMC. Referring to Basirhat, he asserted, “300 people are themselves claiming to be Bangladeshis.”
He further questioned Mamata’s long-standing rhetoric of “Bengali pride,” asking, “Are those who are fleeing Bengalis or Bangladeshis? Whose pride is she protecting? Genuine Indian citizens or infiltrators?”
Mamata Banerjee wrote a three-page letter to the Election Commission demanding the immediate withdrawal of the SIR process. BJP leaders interpret this not as administrative concern, but as political desperation.

Majumdar alleges,
- The TMC’s anti-SIR tirade is aimed at protecting illegal voters
- Illegal infiltrators are now “waiting at border points” to flee
- TMC’s fear stems from its political base disintegrating
In a scorching statement, Majumdar wrote, “Illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, who were living peacefully under Trinamool’s shelter, are now preparing to leave. That is why Mamata Banerjee is panicking.”

He then issued the sharpest challenge so far, “Have you been winning elections through illegal infiltrators’ votes? Clarify immediately in public.” According to the BJP, the TMC built a powerful, reliable voter bloc by:
- Encouraging illegal border infiltration
- Regularising infiltrators through ration cards, local certificates, and voter IDs
- Allowing border districts to become vote factories
- Embedding infiltrators into local party committees and panchayats
And now, they say, the SIR is removing that foundational pillar.
Despite Mamata Banerjee’s warnings, press conferences, and official letters, the Election Commission is continuing SIR in Bengal without pause. BJP leaders claim that TMC attempted to:
- Intimidate EC staff
- Discredit the process
- Create public panic
- Politicise administrative work
But none of it worked. “Despite threats, lies, hooliganism, the EC is carrying out SIR efficiently. If Mamata can’t accept it, she should resign,” Majumdar declared. Majumdar dropped one more political grenade. If the SIR takes longer, elections may not be held on time. That would mean:
- End of TMC government’s term
- Administrative power shifting to the Governor
- Possibility of President’s Rule
- Elections conducted without TMC’s influence over state machinery
And, Majumdar said bluntly, “If elections are held under President’s Rule, BJP has no objection.” This statement alone has rattled the TMC camp.
