Guwahati: Illegal religious madrasa dismantled by Bajrang Dal members in Lumding, Assam. As per report some Islamists were running a madrassa in Jarangdisa area of Lumfing town without any legal approval from complement authority. The Islamist were running a madrasa where minors were giving religious training secretly in a rented house. The place is taken on rent for residential purposes but used by Islamist as religious madrassa. Lumding is a Hindu majority town where over 90 percent Hindu reside. But despite being less than 10 percent the Islamist are trying to create colonies in different parts of the town.

On November 16, the Islamist was running such illegal madrasa in the backyard of a rented house. Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, Lumding members reached the spot and dismantled the illegal infrastructure. Local leader of Bajrang Dal Amrit Paul said that the religious madrassa was run illegally by one Md. Saleemuddin. They didn’t take any permission prior to opening the religious madrassa from the authority in a Hindu locality.

Md. Saleemuddin was running the madrassa in the backyard of a rented house secretly for the past several months. This was against the existing law of the land as setting up of religious madrassa needs district administration and police approval. The madrasa teacher was detained by the police on complaint of the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal. There were 12 students including minor girls.

Amit Paul said, “This is completely unacceptable. They can run their religious madrasa in a mosque or with proper approval of the authority. We all know what they teach there in the madrassa, only to hate Hindu and non-Muslim religions.” Meanwhile the Lumding police have launched an investigation to find out the truth behind the motive of running a religious madrassa so secretly in the backyard of a rented house.

It should be mentioned that many religious madrasas came to spotlight in Assam from 2021 to 2023 for their involvement with banned Islamic Bangladesh based terrorist organisations including Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). Many Madrassa teachers were arrested by Assam police STF for their link with the banned terrorist groups.

Several religious madrassas were demolished by the Assam government in Morigaon, Bongaigaon and Dhubri district after terrorist traces were found there during investigation. These madrassas were used by ABT and AQIS to radicalise Muslim youth and setting up bases in Assam for the Bangladesh based terror organisations. BJP led Assam government in 2022-23 closed down over 700 government run madrassa and converted them to government schools which teach general subjects to their students including Muslim students.
